Hundreds of tuba and euphonium players from across the country gathered at New York’s Rockefeller Center this month to perform in the TubaChristmas 50th anniversary show. NBC News’ Kate Snow has more on the celebration, which marked a half-century in the spot where it all began in 1974.

I played tuba in my highschool band. It was fun!
I played 1st trumpet. I couldn’t even imagine playing the tuba. I think I would have hated it.

@@magnostadt341 Doubtful. Seems like all the tuba players in the band spent their free time trying to learn the trumpet. And they were pretty bad at it. Tuba players just don’t have trumpeters’ lips. And I don’t have tuba-playing lips. Plus, I was kind of a show-off. I liked getting all the solo parts. Tubas never get any solos.

@@magnostadt341 Another thing that would put me off: You can get a top-quality professional trumpet for $3k-$4k. And I’ve got three, for different types of playing. But a tuba of similar quality would set you back $12k or so. Just a lot more material and labor involved in making one.

Tubas, euphoniums, marching baritones, marching tubas, sousaphones, tenor horns, baritones, Alto horns all in attendance. This is the tuba world’s yearly show and tell to the rest of the world. I’ve been to 5, and they’ve all been fun.
A marching French Horn was sneaking around trying to pass itself off as a Baritone/Euphonium.
