The ongoing Israel-Gaza war has destroyed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s image as “Mr Security”, with many Israelis holding him responsible for the attacks, analyst Ahmed Helal has said.
“The Israeli public is furious and they’re frustrated that their security apparatus let them down and then they are unable to kill the upper echelons of Hamas leadership like Yahya Sinwar [Hamas leader in Gaza],” Helal, Director of MENA region at Global Counsel, told Al Jazeera.
“There are no clear wins in this war.”
Helal said the lack of preparation for the Hamas offensive on October 7 has put Netanyahu in “extreme jeopardy”, potentially ruining his political career, and leaving him susceptible to future investigations.

It’s time to talk about post war rebuilding of Gaza. So much destruction of lives and property have taken place yet no one is talking about how the lives of innocent people will be rebuilt.
Schools, hospitals, homes, and basic infrastructure will have to be rebuilt. If these institutions are not rebuilt promptly the whole area could become a humanitarian disaster and when that happens some organizations ‘worse’ than Hamas may emerge in the area.
Sad to say that this war has worsen the condition of both Jews and Palestinians alike in the area. By responding to the Hamas aggression with the type of collective punishment Israel has successfully encouraged more people to join Hamas type organizations. Netanyahu it would appear doesn’t understand the concept of ‘aggression breeds aggression’ and fails to realize that men will naturally avenge the lives of their children.
Don’t get me wrong here, Netanyahu had to respond but the response needed to be proportional and targeted at the Hamas leadership and attackers at an appropriate time. Response to a ‘terrorist attack should not be met by wanton destruction of the lives and properties of everyone living in an area. All lives matter, both Jewish and Palestinian alike. So, again response to attacks should be measured and proportionate. It should in no way look like a genocide.
I love the Jewish people and have always respected their culture and right to peaceful existence. But, i have to question the wisdom of their leadership in matters of conflict resolution. I also have to question if they are doing enough to ensure peaceful coexistence with the people around. And i say this because my research has shown that prior to 1948 both the Jewish and Palestinian people lived together in peaceful coexistence.
I would love to hear some feedback on this and please respectfully correct me if I am wrong because I am still learning and growing.
