I’m not by definition a “defund the police” person. But we as a nation are in dire need of an overhaul of what we want and need from our employees. I do believe we need to disband all SWAT teams. Give boys these kinds of toys and training and they will find any excuse to use and abuse them. This case is but one example. It’s my understanding that these guys were looking for a 14 year old boy. 14! Barney Fife could have rounded up a 14 year old. Police have proven they are incapable of self regulating such dangerous equipment.

So, so sad. I’m glad the police work to ensure their own safety but it would be good if they worked to ensure the safety of laypeople also. It seems to me that the police department using a simple checklist for steps to follow whenever a search warrant is executed would avoid situations like this.

So if this city is going for the designation “great place to raise a family” this event will make plenty of people think that designation does not apply, at least not as long as procedures aren’t changed. (Oh, and if anyone involved reads this and thinks, “oh, but we DID follow procedure”—then you’re missing my point. My point is that procedures need to be changed because this event was easily avoidable. Sure, having a judge sign off is one necessary thing on your checklist. However, you should have a checklist that also includes checking whether the info you have is current. In addition to all the collateral damage, what a waste of money this raid was, even if this mother and baby had not been inside. I wonder how many other raids that city conducts that they could have conducted in a more precise manner—if they had just been willing to follow a few extra steps.

I really hope that the police department and the city get sued to the max, especially if their son dies. The police didn’t perform their due diligence – if they did a little bit of actual surveillance and focused on finding the kid’s actual parents instead of assuming things none of this would have happened.

Blame the judge for signing off this warrant. Where was all the homework done before raiding the home? Was proof provided that this suspect lived in this home? Was there a thorough investigation before the raid? They just made an “assumption” and was wrong. Sue the sh** out of the police department and the county.

Happened to another family 10 years ago, police broke into the house and a flash grenade went into the babys crib and he had a hole in his chest. Police then lied about nobody getting hurt but there was blood near the crib and nobody else was hurt. They also didnt offer to pay for the $1M in medical bills
Lets hope she sues, gets big money, and that little baby still gets his surgery and is paid for. Bless. What a MESS!
