Boeing said a worker at a company that supplies 737 fuselages had discovered two holes that might not have been drilled according to specifications. Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal said the finding was not an immediate safety issue and that all 737s can continue operating safety. But he said Boeing staff would “have to perform rework on about 50 undelivered planes.” NBC News’ Tom Costello reports.

#Boeing #Plane #Safety
I want to know what engineers that don’t have a conflict of interest evaluating the safety concern. Boeing and related companies are not to be trusted
Al Jazeera did an expose about the 737 NG a decade ago, clearly nothing has improved.
Boeing punished their own quality inspectors for finding misdrilled and redrilled holes at fuselage barrel joints at Spirit Aerosystems.
The FAA has known about this issue all these years.
Both FAA and Boeing need to realise that Boeing is no longer a viable competitor to Airbus but is now just a low grade competitor to China’s C919.
nothing linked to dei hiring. hiring based on skill is ableist
Welcome to the world of financialization… The company is no longer run by engineers but by business people who are removed from the actual operations. They find “creative”ways to cut costs which boil down to pushing employees to cut corners save time and money so they can show growth which drives the stock price. There are more important things than growth and stock prices
Boeing turned to crap when they merged with McDonnell Douglas. All their aircraft prior to that are fairly reliable. This is what happens when business tries to supersede engineering. The next Boeing CEO should be an engineer. Then, you’ll see how quickly things turn around.
Nah the whole Board should be replaced by engineers. That makes all the difference
If it’s Boeing, I ain’t going ✈️
Same problem as comet
When are their stocks gonna go below 120? I wanna buy a lot when that happens 🤑
Accountant CEO Leader: “Let’s farm it all out. It looks great on my spreadsheet.”
We seem to relearn the same mistakes decade after decade.
Accountant CEO Leader: “Safety is our top priority!”
Yeah, O.K.
I can see that many in the comments needs to see the Boeing documentary cause their lack of knowledge is frightening.
🔥🔥
A good quality system pays for itself.
This is what happens when a company is run by accountants.
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing… !!!
The only problem the 737 models have is Boeing’s inept leadership.
So I can do a silly wild a__ guess, either QA doesn’t sign off close tolerance holes anymore? Is there QA? Oh right that cost money. Or the persons drilling those holes is using bad templates? So it was only 50 planes? Ah Boeing rework on top of rework, called in house travel jobs Aka out of sequence production line work. Hey it’s only an airplane we don’t have to put it together right the first time. Rush, rush push it out the door quick don’t disappoint those share holders two quarters in a row… face palm So sad to see a company go down like this. Sure sure blame the workers and the mechanics. if ya like. The real rot is from the top down. : (
Remember what happened with British Airways Flight 5390? That could happen again, with similar results to Southwest Flight 1380.
I wonder what color of skin the person drilling the holes has?
Modern made in US quality
Taking no chances, that’s where we should have been all along.
“Not an immediate issue.” That’s money talking . Our lives are expendable in their eyes.
The FAA’s “assurances” feel rather hollow after their continual failures to ensure the safety of the MAX series in the first place… It was thier job to certify the planes safe which they categorically failed to do!
Flying coffin
TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES AND PAY THEM RIGHT
Kinda convenient that they caught these hole issues only after an investigation but none made it into production
Apparently the real news about the Biden corruption, confidential documents in his garage, Hunter’s crimes, etc. aren’t worthy of hysterics, but an old story about a couple of extra holes is? No wonder we can’t trust or believe in the media any longer. The days of Walter Cronkite are destroyed.
You want to maintain quality but cut the cost on in-house production. You then give it to sub contractor that have history of shady production . That is what happened.
They don’t implement the suggestions that matter. It might cost money, time or schedule to do so.
Does anyone else feel the need to avoid flying until this is fixed?
A little bondo or epoxy should fix it./s
Boeing Boeing GONE……
MBA’s destroy companies for short term profits based on hyping stock prices
It is past time for Boeing to pay taxes.
Turn em all into coke cans, I aint flying ever on one of these
Executive compensation thru the roof while their planes can’t even fly…….
Today’s Korporate Klown Kulture……
Boeing: Putting Profits Over People, just like every other company – oh yeah, except we’re airplanes!
Hire some Germans 🇩🇪
Americans saftey under liberal leadership is non existent
Boeing has fallen from the company that gave us things like the first stage of the Saturn V, B-17, B-52, 707, and 747 to this mess. Its just a pathetic shell of its former self. But I guess things like this happen when the MBAs and Beancounters (who rarely see past the next quarter) force the engineers from the boardroom and take over.
If you have shares of boeing, you should sell now, before they become totally worthless
It’s interesting to compare the 5-year share-price graphs of Airbus and Boeing. I’m glad I have shares in the former.
Just cause they have issues regarding one plane in their entire line up doesn’t mean much
@@benedekhalda-kiss9737 so you will continue putting your money in a horse that no only doesn’t win races, but also kills innocent people?
Are you insane?
When you pinch Pennies, you get what you pay for.
Time to take my travel business to Amtrak.
“Not an immediate..safety issue” thats a NO from me.
Guess ill be picking airbus
At this point, if you’re stupid enough to get on a Boeing plane, neither you nor your family should be allowed to sue if anything happens.
Where are the supervisors and or the people in charge
Diversity hires are not the way forward. Hire skilled or face bankruptcy
They own spirit, but they use two different QC systems
I bet all those companies are in bed . All for money. That’s the American way fake it till you get caught then call it fake news and blame everyone else….
spirit made record profits
What a disaster. i wonder how much the executives’ bonuses were last year.
Boeing employees own all this. Unions again – harming honest citizens
Greedy company so sad to see.
One of only two major large passenger airframe manufacturers, and Airbus airframes have also been found dangerously lacking in recent investigations.
I don’t have any answers or solutions, just reminding you that both companies who hold up the commercial mass flight industry are looking shaky.
Spirit Aero is obviously the weakest link in an already questionable quality assurance program.
CLICK BAIT!!! This is not NEWS! I heard about this days ago. Just your way of getting more views. Or are you that far behind in reporting?
Scrap the bloody thing it’s gonna be endless fgs
Boeing: soon to be a QC case-study in business schools around the world.
In order to improve build quality all new planes will be supplied flat packed with full assembly instructions 😂
Hands up everyone who believes Boeing? Err, no-one? Ah, you sir at the back. Oh, you were scratching your head.
I will NEVR fly on any 737 aircraft period.
Getting to the point I want to know if I’m flying Boeing rather than the hotel has a pool.
are they unionized?
Rest assured I’m flying Airbus from now on lol.
i thought the title read phalange
Boeing-safe means that problems are NEVER safety-relevant
(unless 346 people die, or a door blows out, or an engine explodes,
or who cares? Good luck finding another airplane manufacturer)
Boeing is getting exposed
Sooner or later one of these planes will crash if this continues with bad saftey culture.
I would fly in a Boeing but one 10 years old once they worked their teething issues out.
When they say “IT IS NOT AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY ISSUE”, does that really mean, it may become an immediate safety issue over so many flights ??? I question the quality of planes manufactured today. In the past, flights left and arrived in one piece with not many issues. Today, we can no longer say that. We now hope and pray we will arrive at our destination, and once again at home with no surprises.
Old news by a couple months, must have been a slow news day
Corner cutting greed…
It’s looking like the windows vista of aircraft .
D.E.I standards are definitely up to spec, at least they care about whats important.
LOL! Sure! Boeing and Spirit, who have a history of covering up dangerous defects say there’s nothing to see here. Sure, I believe them. LOL!
The “two holes” out of requirement will delay the shipments, but all shipped with the same fault does not affect the safety ? 😳
Boeing should just rename themselves “problem”
because that’s all they are at this point
Problem after problem after problem
Doesn’t get old with them.
“It’s not an immediate flight issue. In a few years, it will be”
Will Boeing finally pull the plug on the 737 line for good and focus on the 797 rather?
ANOTHER ONE BOEING?? WHAT’S NEXT. . . .DISASTER
CIA…
Ask the airline and the representatives in the elections boycott Boeing..!!
Don’t buy Boeing products anymore, they don’t really care about customers and only think about money, money, and money.
Greed will lead Boeing to destruction if they don’t change their mindset.
spirit sucks
Boeing in Partnership with OceanGate.
I always thought at this level of craftsmanship things were like: double checked, triple checked and the best possible materials were used. But it’s pretty clear, the cheapest possible way is used; against the wishes of those who craft it and recommend doing things the right way, only to turn massive profit for some corporate executive who essentially doesn’t really do a thing for the company or the customers.
Capitalism has swung way to far on the pendulum. America is too focused on bottom line dollar to where they are willing to sacrifice life to get a tad more profit squeezed out. It’s sick when you think about it.
It’s some of the most basic part of the engineering.. tighten your nuts and drilling your holes .. the more complex stuff like computers that nose dive the plane into the ground has hopefully been sorted.. but really.. is Boeing loosing itself to the world of cheap and nasty..
Mmm…they keep this up..737…will be the new DC-10.😢
When I worked Ground Ops/Underwing for the commuter arm of a Major Airline minor Maintenance issues would receive an MEL(Minimum Equipment List) Placard indicating that the Aircraft could fly to the Maintenance Hub for repairs For instance if the Reading Light is burned out in the PCU(Passenger Control unit) above the PAX seat the flight ✈️ can operate safely without the light More serious MX issues would result in a flight delay or Cancellation depending upon the issue No Aircraft was ever brought from the MX Hangar to the flight ✈️ Line if their were serious enough issues that couldn’t be fixed at the Gate We could code it as Crew Precautionary or MX and it would not affect our Metrics within the system!
boeing is trash
What is Boeing at core – a financial firm or an engineering firm ?
Boeing has now outsourced quality control to FAA inspectors.
Boeing spends more money on its upper echelons. The retirement packages are more than most earn in a lifetime.
Wonder if greed has anything to do with this?
Boeing CEO has clearly failed on his job to fix the quality problem after 4 years leading the company. He is 100% responsible and must be fired ! What is the Boeing board doing ?
“Not an immediate flight safety issue”
Bruh it’s a missing part on a plane. It is a HUGE safety issue.
IDK why anyone buys this when they have Airbus
Anything to make a couple people rich.
Made in anywhere Butt merica. Farmed assemblies assembled in? 737 drawings from a slide ruler were blueprints in 1963, years later 2017 they installed High bypass fans extended fuselage, and gear. The fly by wire system was never tested on a live AC. Until paying passengers were used as guinea pigs to save money in the Sim
Boeing speed running being one of the best aerospace companies to one of the worst
It’s obvious Boeing should be sold to airbus
