Little appetite in the region for normalisation talks until war comes to an end Mahjoob Zweiri, a Middle East analyst at Qatar University, has said that there is “some hope” from the largely positive response from Hamas towards a potential truce, and added that talk of further normalisation with Israel would re-main largely unpopular as long as the war in Gaza continues.
“No one is ready to listen to this at the moment, without stopping the war on Gaza,” Zweiri told Al Jazeera, adding that Israeli-Saudi normalisation would be a victory for both Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and the administration of US President Joe Biden as their approaches to the region face heavy criticism.

1. A mass influx of refugees will be too much for their country (we would say the same if Canada or Mexico were at war).
2. Israel will take Gaza and not allow the Palestinians to return.

NICARAGUA has threatened the UK Government with action in the International Court of Justice, saying that arms it has provided to Israel may have been used “to facilitate or commit violations of the Genocide Convention” in the Gaza Strip.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan have been shooting down missiles and drones fired from Yemen’s Ansarullah towards lsrael since at least October 20, 2023. Gaza is under a dual blockade by Egypt and lsrael, and the West Bank by Jordan and lsrael. The two make up the top three recipients of US foreign-aid after lsrael, to keep their dictatorships in power, to act as guard dogs for lsrael and as intel hubs for the US, UK and lsrael.
Meanwhile, as usual, they allowed lsraeli aircraft to use their airspace for travel and supplies, and have always allowed ships to use the Suez Canal for lsrael’s trade and supplies. Egypt has also had Hamas and PIJ designated as “terrorists” since at least 2015. They’ll never help Gazans but they routinely blow up cross-border tunnels. The very first weapons shipments from the US to lsrael after the war began in October was from Jordanian bases through Jordian airspace.
KSA, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan and lsrael have a railway and corridor they’ve been working on since 2017 and formally announced in September 2023, now adding India and Greece to the project. UAE has been directly financing illegal settlers in the West Bank for many years, and they bought Beiter Jerusalem which is Israel’s most anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic football club. Egypt and UAE openly collude with Greece, South Cyprus and lsrael against Turkish Cypriots and Palestinians. They have a pipeline and drilling alliance, and lsrael just awarded contracts to steal Gaza’s oil and gas in October 2023, just like they’ve been doing from the West Bank via the Meged oil/gas field since the 2000s.
Most Arab states have been colluding with lsrael since the 1970s or earlier. Palestinian resistance leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was murdered by Mossad in UAE in 2010. Hamas and PIJ members have been arrested and imprisoned all over Arab states since then. KSA, UAE, Bahrain and Morocco use surveillance spyware like Pegasus from lsrael’s NSO Group, etc. Morocco has been colluding with lsrael since the early-1960s. Besides sending over 100k Sephardic Jews to lsrael, they leaked information from Arab League meetings resulting in lsrael’s victory in the 1967 war.
The PLO-led PA has been in power since the 2007 Fatah coup against the 2006 Hamas-led administration that was democratically elected. The US and EU refused to recognize it, and then they along with lsrael, Egypt, Jordan, UAE and Saudi Arabia backed the coup. The West Bank has been ruled by the PA/PLO/Fatah ever since, and lsraelis have been annexing the West Bank without a fight ever since. When anyone in the WB protests against Mahmoud Abbas or the Palestinian Authority for any reason, it’s the IDF that helps shut down said protests.
Arafat died in 2004, and the top two Hamas leaders were assassinated by lsrael the same year. The PLO’s resistance was fully dead by the mid-2000s, meanwhile Hamas and PIJ allied with Iran for armed support around the same time. Even during the Lebanese Civil War (1975–90), most Arab states gave no armed support to the PLO. The only states that backed the PLO during the 80s and 90s was Saddam’s Iraq and Gaddafi’s Libya and we all know what happened to them and why.
In the 1990s the other Arab states pressured the PLO to make peace with lsrael, resulting in the 1993 and 1995 Oslo Peace Accords. The second accord of the two also stipulated that the West Bank would be split into “Areas”, with lsrael solely or jointly controlling the security of the vast majority of the WB. In actuality, it enabled lsrael to de-facto control almost all of the WB. Just like the post-2007 event did, the post-1995 event had accelerated lsrael’s annexations of the West Bank.
