Yale University became the latest high-profile institution to reinstate standardized tests for admission. Yale says the tests are an indicator of a student’s success at the school. Dartmouth and MIT have also reinstated the requirements. Hundreds of colleges made the tests optional during the pandemic. NBC News’ Zinhle Essamuah reports.

Yale: “I wanna be special!”
MIT already reinstated the requirement for standardized test scores. Cry harder!
College is a joke
On average, the more education you have, the more money you make. Typically, people who claim “college is a joke”, are poor, resentful, and envious of those who have more than themselves.
@cameron9292 Such cope. Enjoy your 9-5 till you’re 60.
@@cameron9292 Are you from the 90s
@@cameron9292 Grammar… the comma placement 🤣
It really is for most people.
The solution isn’t to have no standardized tests. It’s to find other ways to make standardized testing fair. Aka investment in making sure everyone has good test prep.
i think most students fromunderprivileged backgoroundssuffer from lack of educational resources in general and government funded standardized test preparations to solve y=x^2 really fast is not the priority
You have fallen for their trap. Standardized grade testing and entrance qualifications are two completely different things.
My thing is, say someone’s excuse for not doing well on the SAT is financial reasons, how are they going to survive 4 years in an overly expensive ivy league school without the required resources.
@@qicss if youre asking how poor people who get bad SAT scores cuz theyre poor will pay for ivy leavue college, most people qualify for financial aid unless ur like mega rich and those whose family income is under $75000 or smthing are totally exempt from paying . i mean usually poor students in ivy leagues are smart and have utilized extra subsidized/free resources already to impress their college i think they can make it in an often less academically challenging environemt than high school by asking for help 🤔
Standardized testing is fair by definition. Any disagreement with that *IS* prejudice
No wonder all that drama and politics made these schools drop in ranking so much compared to real research institutions.
Deliberately misleading title. They are trying to get you to conflate standardized grade testing, which may very well be a bad thing, with entrance qualifications, which are of course necessary.
Good. Finally a move in the right direction.

@@AAZZ720— Oh, I get it. You’re not aware of how to read admissions statistics. 😮😂
Your point?
Yale would be better served instituting old school cognitive testing — MMPI, Wechler’s, Rorschach’s, etc. — for its entire faculty. Then again if it did that it would have no remaining faculty. Hmm.
MMPI is used for disorders and Rorschach’s are the equivalent of phrenology. Do you have any idea what you’re talking about?
The realities of left wing policies are showing in the real world. This is why the ship is now turning around.
HIgh school gpa doesn’t mean anything. Some HS are much easier than others.

sort of off topic but the south is overran with cults lol that means life sucks for the people who arent in power
You do know what a “standardized” test means right?
This is so true, the school I go to is ranked to be a very good school and much better then the surrounding ones. After going there I realized this is just because their scores are high, and there scores are only high Becuase they give anyone with a pulse an easy A in the class.
Unfortunately many students are being passed just to help inflate graduation rates of high schools. In Oregon in 2022 passed a bill that did away with any academic graduation requirements. If the students “passed” their required classes they automatically graduated. This did away with students having to prove they could read, write or do basic math. (No need to even discuss more complex academics) Basically if the student can manage to show at least 60% of the time they graduate. The high school has become a very expensive tax funded daycare facility. It is unfair to students as they are capable but need leadership.
This provides colleges with a challenge to determine if the student can keep up much less excel in a higher education.
Kids are so dumb these days it’s beyond amazing
Horrible
When I get the services of a professional I want to know that they received their qualification through merit, not culture or skin color.
that is a fact.
Pipe down and apply your butt cream buddy. It ain’t that serious.
Hmmm… It’s crazy how you weren’t beating beating the drums saying all this back when you had non-racial minorities getting in because their mother or father were alumni. But now all of a sudden it’s a very important topic to you. I get it.

Yale: Bring back testing.
Wait, there were no tests proving you knew the material before?
They tried allowing students in without looking at test scores for a few years, graduation rates PLUMMETED. It is time to have a standard at these universities. There is always a college, even if it is local, that will accept and aide students who need it.
*aid
Exactly people seem to forget we have something called community colleges in this country where you can get those resources you need to prepare for the tests and four year schools very cheap (sometimes free), if you didn’t have well off parents.
But why did they do that though?
students getting in there probably been preparing since they were kids. imagine getting in of what it would be like for someone that really not really prepared of what to expect. I think I’ll skip rather stick to small class room & get to know the teacher better to be wiser
You are wise. Unfortunately, a lot of people getting in don’t deserve to be there, and the incompetent are always more likely to miss their incompetence than the competent.
On the flip side, affirmative action policies mean that in practice, requirements vary for different kinds of students. Students from certain ethnic groups—especially Asians and Jews—require much higher SAT, GSAT, and MCAT scores than their peers.
what an innovative idea, truly groundbreaking stuff
That’s messed up
Good!
Overturn Griggs v. Duke Energy and end this accreditation scam.
oh nooo admission based on how well you study?! that’s racist!!!
Provide better education to student of all background . After that there shouldn’t be any differential treatment in any context whether it’s rich, poor, black white in progression or college.
*to students of all backgrounds
Providing a “better” education doesn’t mean anything when a student simply refuses to learn anything because they’re prioritizing tiktok and “social justice”.
“Family income greatly impacts test performance”
Might as well make admissions GPA-optional then…
“Family Income” also determines what schools would be in the budget 🤓
WOW WHAT A SURPRISE
Kids are stupid because of the left.
How about you let in all applicants with the agreement that if you fail you get deported to China. Let’s see how many people apply now.
Diversity fail… surprise!
maybe we could A) acknowledge that even though they try really hard not to be labeled as such, tests like the SAT and the ACT are essentially IQ tests, and B) use IQ tests that aren’t loaded on cultural differences or educational attainment, like the Raven’s Progressive Matrices. Then we could capture people regardless of socioeconomic status that have the cognitive ability. Unfortunately the companies that create and administer the SAT/ACT have too much influence and the purpose isn’t being truly meritocratic.
Mathematics aren’t cultural. Every school in america is teaching the same algebra 1, the same algebra 2, etc. And IQ is largely irrelevant to learning these subjects, that’s why they’re able to teach them young and to everyone. But some are raised to resent school, and resent teachers, and they actively refuse to learn anything while in school. Some kids graduate unable to read, because the school system can’t keep you in 1st grade until you’re an adult.
@@noktumwhatever753 it is cultural since THEY have been breeded so long that they can’t understand what a variable is
@@noktumwhatever753 Ok you start off by saying that mathematics aren’t cultural, and then explain that schools within the same culture with the same language teach algrebra the same way. I’m going to ask you the same question I asked the guy who recommended Rorschach’s testing: Do you have a single clue what you are talking about?

Removing the standardized test allowed people not prepared for the course work in the door, they tried but after a few years had to drop out and of course were left with student loans. The system used to be setup to protect people from getting into this mess but greed has allowed this to happen. Of course people of color are disproportionality affected.
least 350,000 chronic patients, 60,000 pregnant women, and about 700,000 children in Gaza are exposed to serious health complications as a result of malnutrition, dehydration, and lack of medical facilities, according to the enclave’s health ministry.
grades can be fudged more easily
To create a bar to reach this is the same reason the Navy has Bud training. To weed out those who can’t make it. Also brings back some rigor to college. There is a saturation of colleges that are all over the place and degree’s are becoming less valued unless you are an ivy league that needs to protect that.
Universities are gatekeepers for people trying to get into higher paying jobs. Rigorous standards cull people who aren’t willing or able to put in the effort. Employers know how hard or easy each degree is from each university. Employers spend time and effort to get an expensive employee that will be able to accomplish their tasks and work well with others.
Racist!!!
Standardized tests for some and bank statements for others.
