A Chilean Boeing 787 had a “severe” event on a flight from Australia to New Zealand, injuring 50 passengers and crew members. LATAM Airlines says the plane experienced a “strong shake” during the flight. The cause is currently under investigation. NBC News’ Tom Costello reports.

I would have never survived both internally and externally in a situation like this. Turbulence gives you mad anxiety. Anything bad could happen and you wouldn’t even know if you’re staying alive for the next couple of hours or not.

I always keep my seatbelt on, regardless of whether the seatbelt sign is on or not.

Cabin crew visiting the flight deck rested her elbow on the cover of the switch that electrically moves the seat fore and aft, the one on top of the seatback. The seat proceeded to move forward pinning the captain against the control column (his legs were crossed apparently). His body pushed the control column, disconnecting the AP and initiating an “interesting” dive. Everyone that wasnt wearing a seatbelt hit the ceiling. Kaos and a struggle for survival ensued. Upon final recovery at 9,000 ft, all the people who were stuck on the ceiling came crassing down. 50 or so injured.
I would take my seat belt off so I can get in on the injury law suit

Seatbelts anyone? Anyone? Oh, they’re uncomfortable? Oh well, then you might get knocked on your head if the plane has extreme turbulence, such as happened here.
They should show clips like this to passengers before every flight takes off so they can see what can happen if they don’t have a seatbelt on!

While serving a meal, the “cover” to the pilots seat position switch was leaned on and activate the switch pushing the pilots seat forward. The forward motion jammed the pilot, and his hot coffee and sea bass, into the yolk. Once the pressure on the yolk pass a certain threshold the autopilot disengaged and the forward pressure on the yolk caused the plane to suddenly descend rapidly. This is all good except for the sudden “change in altitude” happened at cruising speed which is 595 mph. At that speed even a 5 degree pitch forward will generate a lot of negative g’s. And all this will your bass and coffee are floating in the cockpit. I NEED to hear the CVR playback on this one! Boeing, Boeing, Gone!

Modern Boeing products are based on cheap Chinese plastic and cheap glue combined by cheap, unmotivated workers. The sudden decomposition of this trash during a flight will be a common problem as the trash gets older and more worn. If the garbage is still allowed to fly.
