Everyone opposing Palestine at the Security Council has a long history of RACISM and colonial history. In the US, it was ILLEGAL for a non-white person to use the same bathrooms as a white American person up to the 1960’s, or drink from a water fountain or sit in the same area of the bus. Post Ww II, the only way to get the then strong nations of the world to join the UN after having seen what a debacle the League of Nations turned out to be, the power of the veto was offered and accepted. The veto has been used by ALL members of the SC since the beginning of the UN. It’s not just an American ‘thang’. During the Cold War, the Soviet Empire used it often to protect their proxies. Remove the veto power and most likely the super-power nations would leave.

How obscene is it that US blocks Palestine’s admission to the UN but supports Israel who reneged on the conditions of it’s admission to the UN straight after being admitted.
The only reason we are having this debate about acceptance as a country is because of the actions of the United Kingdom historically which dispossessed and made the Palestinians essentially stateless at the end of the second world war. Up until then they were recognised as Palestine. The British government reneged on agreements which were part of the treaty of Versailles which recognised and was supposed to ensure Palestinian rights and sovereignty. In the nineteen twenties the British represented by Lord Balfor circumvented this agreement which stopped this process and subsequently at world war two’s end till now we have this on going conflict.
