The Biden Administration plans to raise tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 25 to about 100 percent, sources familiar with the matter tell NBC News. It comes as former President Trump argues the shift to EVs will hurt American workers and the cars become a focus of the 2024 campaign. NBC News’ Garrett Haake reports.

Tariffs on imports drive up the cost of goods as tariffs are paid by the import country not the export country. This will hurt any US citizens that buys a China built EV.

China gets the last laugh. US sends raw material to China for our battery production needs and components. So if the administration wants to add tariffs to that as well, up goes the price of the US EV. Also, the EV market has slowed, but if China really feels they want any of the dismal share of the US buyers, they’ll build plants here.
