Plan to build India’s first bullet train part of Modi’s bid to boost the country’s infrastructure

The construction of India’s first high speed rail between the cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad is a key part of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s infrastructure push.

However, setbacks caused by the pandemic and political rifts have plagued the project. While the Sabarmati terminal connecting different travel nodes in Ahmedabad has been built, the first station in the line is still under construction.

The first section of the bullet train could begin operations by 2026, India’s railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
