Professor discusses Macron’s “gamble” with French snap elections

French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the country’s parliament and called for a snap election on Sunday after his Renaissance party was defeated by the far-right National Rally in the European elections.

This result was due to the French voters wanting to send a message to the government, said Douglas Yates, professor at the American Graduate School in Paris.

Macron is gambling on performing better in the French elections, where voters would probably “vote responsibly,” he added.
