Donald Trump has said that Taiwan should pay the U.S. for defense. He also claimed Taiwan had taken “about 100%” of America’s chip business, according to a Bloomberg report. CNBC’s Arjun Kharpal breaks down Trump’s comments and how the biggest U.S. companies have come to rely on Taiwan for the most advanced chips in the world.
So TSMC is welcome to Brazil 🇧🇷
Bc intc was been a cheap ass for all those years earlier and now cant make those chips anymore and asking tax payers for help in paying for their factory investments. Too bad that taxpayers can do anything about it.
Intel got dogged for being expensive what the hell you talking about
Not the stock value cheap. Cheapass the metaphor.
South Korea is a formidable player in the high-tech chip manufacturing arena. Alongside Taiwan, it’s one of the global leaders in this sector.
Key Players: Samsung and SK Hynix are South Korea’s primary chip manufacturers, both boasting significant capabilities in producing advanced chips. South Korea typically holds around 15-20% of the global semiconductor market share.
Samsung is falling behind in terms of chip manufacturing
@@RayLee-bp4qs Taiwanese people tend to be jealous of Samsung.
@@user-dv5if1hm2w Yes I agree Samsung do make better washing machine than Taiwanese company, but tsmc is leading in the chip market share for sure
@@RayLee-bp4qs Are you Taiwanese?
@@user-dv5if1hm2w so true.. what’s more hilarious is that Taiwanese are mad at the fact that most Koreans aren’t really interested or consider Taiwan as a rival.
Tell Trump what’s at stake, should Taiwan or other countries pay for American insurance? let’s just say no and stop hegemony naturally
I do wonder if Winnie Xitler is watching this…
He has no control on TSMC
he has no vpn😂
So after “putler” now it’s “xitler” ? Quite imaginative… so refreshing…so above room temperature
Taiwan pays USA ? What happens if China says I will pay Taiwan ! Taiwan says I will join China and not sell chips to USA?
People all know that Taiwan will not join China. Trump, of course, knows this.
Thatäs it form Tiktok to Tesla
The US will destroy all chip-making equipments originated or uses US tech such as EUV in TSMC fabs.
@@tooltalk USA already disrupted chip market in china and also slowing the pace of Saudi’s new projects and India, so they are on to analog photonics, if succeeded US tech companies are at dire risk. its all about USA foreign policy form 2025 to 2027
@@godgivespizza238 Sure, China is free to develop their own chip making equipment supply-chain. The US is not obligated to supply China with the cutting edge chip-making equipments they invented/developed over the past several decades.
TSMC should consider investing in India. We control the other side of the border, the land one. The more stuff we have the safer the area will be.
Silicon chips are sensitive to curry powder. The can overheat and explode through your arse😮
Make your own chips, America!
Lazy American cannot take the hard work!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
America can make chips, but not that small. Samsung can make small chips but uses too much power. That’s why the iPhone’s battery life is way longer than that of Android phones. It’s about a 10 billion dollar investment and five years to break through. Furthermore, it’s not a guarantee.
TSMC took 11.6 billion from the government in grants/loans and given a ton of land that is sitting there doing nothing. They should at least be charged higher interest on the US tax dollars if they don’t provide the jobs promised.
Grow up, American manufacture won’t reach its prosper again if it can’t finish even a single foundry, it’s the US government who invited TSMC to invest yet can’t even build a single foundry, same for Intel, their foundry can’t be completed because labor issues are unyielding due to inflation. Go study
They don’t provide? LOL AMERICANS CRYING FOR THIER TREATMENT
It is the US who invited TSMC to come. Intel received more subsidies but doing nothing! Blame yourself before blaming someone else who is helping you!
Twitter finger Trump at it again. 4 more years of not knowing what tomorrow will bring!!
America is out sourcing all its manufacture (making products) to other countries.
Now it does Not know how to do them. It take a lot of time to re-learn things. Example: How do you build modern Bridges ??
What Trump said about Taiwan is the most stupid and short-sighted thing. Nvidia, AMD, Intel, and other US companies cannot manufacture their own chips. They rely on Taiwan’s company, TSMC, to manufacture their chips. If USA loses Taiwan to China, China will have Taiwan refuse to manufacture chips for USA. Then USA’s technology industry will be collapsed and so is the US’s economy. That’s why the USA protects Taiwan at all costs. China would be very happy with Trump right now. How could we let someone like this be a president.
Manufacturing of microchips is very difficult, Communist China spent well over 60 $ billion and tried bribery, extortions, espionage, anything you say, still did not catch up, invasion of Taiwan is their strategy, only Samsung and Taiwanese TSMC group, Media Tek etc.
Americans believe in this philosophy called “work/life balance”. If you believe in that, semicon manufacturing aint for you. The fact is semicon manufacturing jobs are not fun, engineers are are on-call 24hrs a day. You can’t just go home and turn off your cellphone after work.
Banning the export of lithography machines to Taiwan is like what was done to China. If TSMC does not have lithography machines to produce chips, it will move back to the United States.
Move back? Hell no
Yeah you do that the world stops
TSMC is one of the stakeholders for ASML
@@mactsai5652 TSMC must move out of Taiwan. Samsung can make up for TSMC’s chip production during downtime.
Go get yourself educated
US previously tried to forcefully snatch TSMC technology, but later found that it could not move hundreds of upstream and downstream manufacturers involved to US.
If outsourcing is stopped, America will once become the global hub for chips.
Taiwan made high quality chip for the whole world!! People should know and appreciate it!
@@wildfire8126so are you using IPhone now?
The USA must produce our own chips …
Regulations are main reasons that US cannot make our own chips. If regulations will go away, it will be possible for US can start to produce the best chips in the world.
Easy answer: because the US can’t make high end chips!
Look at Intel , led by a showman. Btw, compare the quality of vehicles made in the US to those made in Japan. We have to admit that something has changed, and we need to improve!
@@wildfire8126 keep telling your China Story
What mistakes do Americans make?
The Chinese are Chinese. Hong Kongers and Taiwanese think of China before the United States. They are Chinese. The growth of China’s semiconductor technology is thanks to Taiwan’s TSMC. Taiwan’s TSMC will deal a major blow to America’s future. Their hearts are in China. The U.S. government and the American people must not ignore this.
I agree. Somebody’s gotta pay. Everything cost money defense is money
ASML has more advanced EUV building capability ; Japan has the best chemicals for making chips. Did both countries steal the business from America? As far as I know, no one chip design is still the USA. What a nonsense talk about stealing when losing competition.
Chip production is an extremely environmentally polluting production process, with toxic chemicals leaking into the water supply and soil. The leaked waste from the chip production process can cause genetic defects in babies. Americans have been suing chipmakers like Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, Applied Materials, IBM and others for decades. Many, if not all, U.S. chipmakers have outsourced chip production to foreign companies such as TSMC. The biggest irony for the United States is that TSMC has been buying chip production equipment from China Microelectronics for many years.
The pride of Taiwan, Taiwan’s foundry leader (TSMC) has never produced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Since China Advanced Micro-Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Co., Ltd. purchased 28-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment, it has continued to 7-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment to produce chips. Currently, TSMC’s 12-inch wafer fab in Nanjing, China has been equipped with China Advanced Micro-Semiconductor 7-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment to produce chips for Apple, Samsung, Huawei, etc. Since 14-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment, UMC has purchased semiconductor manufacturing equipment from China Advanced Micro-Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Co., Ltd. In 2017, China Advanced Micro-Semiconductor mastered the 5-nanometer etching machine technology! 5-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment will be sold in 2018. China Advanced Micro-Semiconductor will sell TSMC 5-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and even 3.5-nanometer semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
On January 18, 2019, when the whole world was focusing on Huawei and Meng Wanzhou, big news suddenly came from Shanghai, which excited the Chinese people and shocked the world: after verification by SMIC/TSMC, the 5-nanometer plasma etcher independently developed by AMEC has excellent performance and will be used in SMIC/TSMC’s 5-nanometer chip process production line.
