The new program, called “token-less clearance,” will be rolled out across all terminals at Changi Airport by September and is expected to reduce immigration wait times by 40%.
While it will be convenient, I’d be concerned about the security of the data being collected. What is being collected, how long it is kept, how strong is the encryption used, etc. We see too many breaches for this.
The world was supposed to be borderless. But look the crab that happens in middle makes me very pessimistic. NOT MY WAR AND NOT MY CONFLICT. NO THANKS NAH.
Well, that’s a country i wont be visiting. Biometrics is not necessary for border control. Passport is sufficient. With a government as shady as Singapore, I suspect that the Biometrics will be used (secretly) for other purposes. As Benjamin Franklin put it eloquently “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Thankfully there are other cheaper places to visit in that region that DONT require my biometrics.
Yeah….but they don’t tell you about the health declaration you need to do from a downloaded app or at the airport upon arrival, if you don’t have it, so you still spend time doing that. Years ago, I face thumbprint issue that keeps asking me to try again and there was also face recognition that cannot positively identify me. After 3 attempts I was escorted to a manned counter and got clearance in under 15 seconds compare to nearly 40 seconds standing and facing the camera.
That’s probably just you so it’s right for them to check. I have issues with my thumbprint as I wash my hands regularly but my face recognition works. The health declaration app is so fast to fill in, unlike Australia who still uses paper customs declaration forms
In HK, we use our HK ID card which already have biometric data. So we don’t need to use HKSAR passport when leaving and arriving in HK. Maybe it will also try the facial detection in the future.
as a singaporean, i’m excited to try this!
Singapore has always been far ahead of other countries, another striking example.

Even passports contain biometrics to prevent identity theft.🤣

you cannot afford Singapore.
Please don’t come
No more fake passport…
Passport free entry eliminate the bottleneck of immigration clearance.
Malaysia cannot do that. We hv too many illegal immigrants from myanmar, Nepal, India, pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines.
What about those who constantly went for plastic surgery, that would be a problem
It will be their problems😂
biometric can mean they detect ur identity via ur iris/thumbprint

Your spoilt if you feel healthy declaration online is tough to do
AUSTRALIA IS BETTER THAN SINGAPORE
Whenever I travel to Asia, I always sing Conan O’Brien’s “In the year 2 thousand, in the year 2 thousaaaaaaand” song in my head.
Passport is still mandatory, the biometric system is to speed operation by 40%. It will replace the current system by end September 2024. Cheers 🇸🇬
