Al Assad did what the Shah of Iran did in 1979. He left Syria, and left alone without escape most of his close followers. Most of them got captured and probably executed by Syrian rebels. Same happened in 1979, hundreds of close allies of Shah were executed quickly with no rights to defend in a trial.

Justice has to be rendered by courts and punishments have to be commensurate with the crimes that are proven. Otherwise, the new regime will be no different than the old one.

It’s really important to see thru the nuances when watching/reading news especially the mainstream ones. Important to know who backs or funds them publicly and secretly.
