Potter used to be the communications vice-president of Cigna, a U.S. insurance company. Now he leads an organization called Medicare for All Now.
“We told the Americans that the Canadian system was not the system that we should have anything to do with, that it was “socialized medicine.” We used that term repeatedly to try to get people to be afraid of the Canadian system.
We exaggerated and misinformed people about waits. I’m very familiar with the waits that you have to, in many cases, have in Canada for elective procedures. But we wanted people to have the impression that if you have an emergency or if you have any need for medical care, that you were put on a long waiting list.

Humans have been social since our early evolution as a species. Quarantine is hard because it goes against almost everything in our nature. We didn’t evolve to be lone wolves living in a cave rarely comming out for food.
There are a number of humans that are immune or will survive the virus.
There are a number of humans that will surely die from it very quickly.
I think everyone should live and I hope they do. To me social distancing and washing hands makes sense. I won’t go into masks because the professionals change their professional view on masks every 48 hours or so (get it together Doctors)
But ultimately the immune and healthy aren’t obligated by their nature to care about those whos genetics make them a weak subject /easy target for the virus.

I think in their heads. The ones that are out and about partying, they think that the disease is *inevitable* and should be allowed to run its course. The idea of reducing the virus so much that it goes extinct seems… Unlikely. The odds of having a cure or vaccine in less than 3 years is even less likely.
It’s not in the nature of healthy primates to follow the leadership and orders of the sick and ill of their tribes. Why are people surprised that the healthy keep on doing what they do?
Those who can and will survive and live want their freedom here and now apparently. They don’t see themselves as being responsible for other peoples choice to chose to leave home and expose themselves.
The person who knows they are high risk but chose to leave their home… That person is really dumb.
The person who knows they will be fine and therefore choses to leave home is… Normal.
If you chose to leave home essential or not doesn’t matter, if you contract a sickness it’s pretty much 99% on you for walking out your door. It’s hard for people to accept personal blame for bad things that happen to them.

The cases ARE there whether we CONFIRM them or not – And when they are there, they can be spread to other people so you need to know if you’re sick so that you can take proper precautions
The point of testing is to find potential positive carriers and try to slow the spread by isolation, quarantine, and try to contact trace and test others that may be spreaders. And if you are sick, having symptoms, and come back negative, you should probably get a a second test just in case you had a false negative. Certain brands of tests have given false negatives, so there are people that could still be spreading the virus. This is why a good doctor will still or should make you isolate/quarantine just in case. And they should treat the patients as a positive one for prevention until the results come back as well. And this virus is not a hoax or just a flu. It is what it is. And not a joke.
The vaccine America really needs to discover is the one that inoculates its citizens against the gross stupidity and selfishness they display when they ignore science and think they know better. America has been exposed for the selfish, ill-informed nation that it is.

It is difficult to fight a serious epidemic without a universal, NHS in place. All European countries have it, that’s why we have been able to do something about it with some results. Without a proper NHS you can’t do it. It’s the organisation, the support it gives to everyone, and de support it has from everyone, it is cheaper, even for business, that don’t have to worry about health insurance, and can concentrate on on their core business.

We have downgraded to herd immunity. Stay safe America. The government has no strategy. We should not be forced to co-exist with this. We are right on track with Brazil and Mexico. I’m so angry. We wrecked the economy and still didn’t flatten the curve. We are 0-2.
The problem with herd immunity is that the numbers don’t add up either. Given from what we see in hard-hit areas like Italy and New York, we need almost a year with overcrowded hospitals to reach the necessary 70% – about the same time we have to wait for a vaccine.

It’s not the failure of national policy but failure of our nations doctors to get up to speed and try new things that has been preventing more effective treatment of our COVID-19 cases. When the CDC does not lead, doctors have to respond by researching what other doctors are coming up with. As early as March, in California, there was a groundbreaking treatment for COVID-19 that was published by TV, newspapers and even Newsweek, and it was touted as a 100% cure. But, it was not followed up on immediately by most other doctors, because at “100%” and “cure”, it was simply to good to be true perhaps. In my own personal experience, when I asked doctors and nurses at different hospitals in April if they had heard that there was a cure, they acted like I had insulted their intelligence. Their responses went something like this: ” That’s a lie! If that was true, we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in!” But, it WAS true and literally thousands of patients could have (not maybe could have, but definitely could have) been saved if the medical profession had not been obsessed with “not published in a medical journal” or “no clinical trials, so it’s doubtful” scepticism. In the worst pandemic in 100 years, with thousands of people dying every day, who has the time to wait on those formalities? The doctor with the “cure” was Dr. Thomas Yadegar, ICU Director at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. He developed a medical tool, a diagnostic panel of clinical “markers” to enable him to PREDETERMINE who would normally require ventilators and he found that he could ameliorate their symptoms by aggressively treating them with anti-inflammatories and immunosuppressants (yes, immunosuppressants!) in order to PREVENT his patients from having to go on ventilators. And, evidently physicians across the country are still not using Dr. Yadegar’s screening tests, or are they? The national news networks are trying to say that ventilators at ICU units are on the verge of being overwhelmed by the recent national surge in COVID-19 patients here during the first week in July. Why haven’t doctors learned how to prevent as many COVID-19 patients as possible from needing ventilators? Dr. YADEGAR’S protocol recommends screening patients to predetermine potential ventilator candidates as soon as they are admitted to the hospital so that they can receive special treatment, INDIVIDUALIZED treatment. Years ago, Sir William Osler, one of the founders of John Hopkins Hospital once wrote, “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease”. We need more great physicians like Dr. Yadegar. Contact him for the details of his screening tests at Providence Cedars-Sinai.
