Volunteers shuttle between Poland and Ukraine to provide aid

In a medieval town in Poland a few hours’ drive from Ukraine, volunteers from across Europe are preparing aid convoys bound for the border. Volunteers are working against the clock to pack and distribute as much aid into Ukraine as they can, as organisers worry Belarusian forces allied with Russia could soon block their supply lines. The editor-in-chief of Russia’s sole independent TV news channel has left the country. Tikhon Dzyadko of TV Rain (Dozhd) fled Russia after the channel’s website was blocked by government authorities. More than 2,000 arrested at anti-war protests in Russia

Police in Russia have arrested more than 2,000 anti-war protesters across the country, an independent monitor said, on the fourth day of President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine that took many Russians by surprise. OVD-Info, which has documented crackdowns on Russia’s opposition for years, said 2,114 protesters were arrested on Sunday. At a meeting with his top officials, Russian president ordered the defence minister and the chief of the military’s general staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a “special regime of combat duty”.
