Search for survivor continues under Beirut building rubble

On Friday, Lebanon fell silent to mark exactly a month since an explosion at Beirut’s port ripped through the city. At least 190 people died and about 300,000 people lost their homes. Some are staying in buildings deemed unsafe because they have nowhere else to go. A judge in Lebanon has ordered several arrests over the devastating explosion in Beirut on August 4. The blast killed more than 200 people and left parts of the city in ruins. UN Security Council rejects US bid to extend Iran arms embargo

Iran will be able to start buying conventional weapons again in October, after the US failed to get a 13-year ban extended. Just one other nation backed it in a vote at the UN Security Council. Iran says the US has “never been so isolated” but the White House is threatening to find other ways to bring back sanctions. Several killed in Yemen floods

Flash floods have hit several provinces in Yemen, killing at least 20 people, including children. Hundreds of thousands left homeless by Beirut explosion

Lebanese President Michel Aoun called for an emergency cabinet meeting on Wednesday and said a two-week state of emergency should be declared following a massive explosion in Beirut that killed at least 100 people and injured 4,000 others. The explosion on Tuesday sent shockwaves across the city, causing widespread damage as far as the outskirts of the capital. Officials said they expect the death toll to rise further as emergency workers dig through the rubble to search for survivors. At least three Beirut hospitals destroyed, two damaged

Dr Mirna Doumit, president of the Order of Nurses in Beirut, said three of the city’s hospitals had been destroyed in the explosion in the port area. “So we had to evacuate patients who were in those hospitals to others. In addition, we have two other hospitals that were partially destroyed. So it was a catastrophe and a big hit to the healthcare system, which was already bleeding,” she told Al Jazeera from the Lebanese capital. “We lost three nurses working in the hospitals. Beirut explosion: Lebanon PM promises to punish those behind the blast

A massive explosion in Lebanon’s capital Beirut has killed at least 78 people and injured thousands more as a shockwave devastated the city.
