Dutch government to appeal court order to halt export of F-35 jet parts to Israel

The Dutch government says it will appeal a court ruling to stop exports of warplane spare parts to Israel. The announcement came hours after Dutch judges upheld an appeal by human rights organisations. They argued that helping to maintain the F-35 stealth jets contributed to Israel’s violations of international law. The ruling says the Netherlands needs to stop exporting any parts destined for Israel within seven days. The parts are American-owned, but stored in Dutch warehouses ready for shipping. Satellite images reveal how Egypt tightened borders with Gaza

Satellite images taken between November 22 last year and January 15 this year and verified by Al Jazeera, show that the Egyptian authorities have been tightening the border security by the Gaza Strip by establishing several checkpoints. On November 23, the Egyptian authorities began to complete the construction of an old earthen berm parallel to the border, approximately 200 metres (219 yards) away from the separating border fence. Pictures taken on December 3 show that the authorities had completed the remaining part of the berm, 3.5km (2.2 miles) long, bringing the total length of the berm to 14km (8.7 miles) along the entire sector border. Israeli police break up protest blocking aid to Gaza: Report

Israeli police have broken up a protest by demonstrators trying to block humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. At least 18 protesters have been detained at the Karem Abu Salem Crossing (called Kerem Shalom in Israel), on Israel’s border with Gaza. They’ve been demanding the release of captives. Previous protests in the same place have resulted in trucks filled with aid supplies being turned back. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz is reporting the government of Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing ahead with a major illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank. Fighting in Myanmar: Violence spills over into Bangladesh

Tension is high on the border between Myanmar, Bangladesh and India. Civilians have been killed and injured during a recent surge in fighting, in Rakhine State in northern Myanmar.
