Kenya searches for missing people amid deadly floods

Rescuers are searching for many people missing amid devastating flooding across Kenya. The Ministry of Interior and National Administration said on Tuesday that a search operation had been launched following the bursting of a dam in Mai Mahiu in the centre of the country the previous day. Hundreds of people are reported to have died as heavy rains have lashed East Africa in recent weeks. The Kenyan government says the death toll from a month of flooding has reached at least 169 people. Thousands of people are displaced and many others missing. In the east, a ravine collapsed into the Tana River, causing it to burst its banks. Rescuers are searching for several people after a boat capsized, trying to cross a dam near the town of Garissa. Kenya dam collapse: Dozens killed in town north of Nairobi

At least 40 people have been killed after a dam burst its banks in a town north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Water from the Old Kajiabo Dam washed away houses and cut off a major road. Search and rescue efforts are underway. Floods caused by unusually heavy rains have killed dozens of people across East Africa since March.
