We’ve been getting reports of a drone and rocket attack on the Ain al-Asad airbase that hosts US and other international forces in western Iraq. According to the Reuters news agency, multiple blasts were heard inside the base. Ain al-Asad air base is located in the western Anbar province. Meanwhile in a separate incident, US Navy has intercepted 3 missiles in the Northern Red Sea. The Pentagon says they believe this was a Houthi attack launched from Yemen and that preliminary evidence suggests the drones and missiles were potentially heading towards Israel. AlJazeera’s Youma AlSayed says that the tower behind her that was hit by an Israeli missile was a residential building. AlSayed was reporting live when the missile struck. One of the apartments was previously targeted in August 2022, killing Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Tayseer al-Jabari. “But this time, the building was totally destroyed and brought to the ground. Looking at all the building adjacent to it, you can imagine the amount of destruction that is in [the vicinity]. The United States has accused Russia of planning a so-called “false flag” operation in eastern Ukraine, in an attempt to create an excuse for an invasion. The Pentagon says there is evidence Russian agents might already be in the country to carry out acts of sabotage and blame Ukraine for them. The United States has announced plans to pull nearly a third of its military personnel out of Germany in a continuing dispute over defence spending. President Donald Trump flagged the move back in June, amid a dispute with Berlin over its defence spending.
