CERN hadron collider fires up again to reveal cosmic secrets

The world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator is up and running again in Switzerland after a three-year refurbishment. And it is off to a record-breaking start as scientists try to unlock the secrets surrounding the building blocks of the universe. Physicists hope it will reveal the secrets of “dark matter” that makes up 85 percent of our universe, but does not absorb, reflect or emit light. Dutch farmers block food warehouses over new environmental rules

Farmers in the Netherlands have blockaded supermarket distribution centres in continuing protests against new environmental rules on nitrogen emissions that are likely to put many of them out of business. Fishers on Monday blocked ports in a show of support for farmers. The blockade prevented ferries from sailing to almost all the Wadden Islands off the country’s northern coast and caused lengthy delays, shipping companies reported. Ukraine war: Moscow claims capture of Lysychansk

Russia’s defence minister tells President Vladimir Putin that Moscow’s forces “have established full control over the city of Lysychansk” in Ukraine’s Luhansk province. Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin that “as a result of successful military operations, the armed forces of the Russian Federation, together with units of the People’s Militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic, have established full control over the city of Lysychansk”, according to Russian news agencies. ECOWAS meeting: Bloc set to discuss politics, regional violence

West African leaders are due to meet in Ghana’s capital as the region sees an increase in attacks by armed groups. Leaders of the ECOWAS bloc are also expected to review sanctions imposed on a number of countries under military rule. Another concern for West African leaders as their economies struggle, is the rise of protests against inflation and shortages.
