A powerful winter storm is making its way through the US and Canada, bringing with it massive amounts of snow and extremely low temperatures. It has been called a “once in a generation” event, and it is disrupting travel during one of the busiest times of the year. Canada anti-Muslim attack: ‘It could have been any one of us’

A vigil has been held in Canada in memory of a Muslim family killed when the driver of a pick-up truck ran them over. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called the attack on the Afzaal family in Ontario a “terrorist attack”. Police say the crime was motivated by anti-Muslim hate. A 20-year-old man, Nathaniel Veltman, was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Saudi Arabia overturns death sentences in Jamal Khashoggi killing

Saudi Arabia has reduced the sentences of eight people involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey. Last year, five of them were given the death penalty for the killing, but that has been overturned. The court handed 20-year sentences to five people and three others were sentenced to between seven to 10 years, state media reported. The eight convicted were not identified. Iran’s top diplomat has arrived in France for surprise talks at the G7 summit, an official announced, as US President Donald Trump appeared to brush aside French efforts to mediate with Tehran. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif landed on Sunday in the French seaside town of Biarritz, where leaders of the G7 nations – the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan – are holding their annual gathering.
