Protesters across Europe clash with police over COVID curbs

Countries across Europe are returning to lockdown, as the continent grapples with a surge in coronavirus infections. In Germany, police used water cannon and pepper spray to disperse anti-lockdown protesters in the city of Kassel. In neighbouring Switzerland, more than 5,000 protesters gathered in the town of Liestal to demand an end to COVID restrictions which have shut restaurants and other public places for months. Elsewhere in Europe, there were more anti-lockdown protests on Saturday from Bulgaria to Romania, Serbia to Croatia. Russia, US call on Afghans to discuss ceasefire after talks

The Afghan government and the Taliban have reportedly agreed to speed up peace talks. US Yemen envoy urges response on ceasefire plan with Houthis

A spokesman for the Houthi rebels in Yemen says they have rejected a United States plan for a nationwide ceasefire, insisting it only represents the views of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations.
