The general staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has said in its evening report that Russian forces made unsuccessful attempts to advance in the Lyman sector, as artillery shelling killed at least eight civilians and wounded 13 in the eastern town. Ukrainian forces have launched several attacks on Russian positions – since Saturday’s mutiny. Some of the Russian forces had to leave their positions because of the attempted rebellion by Wagner group – but are starting to return to the front lines. The Ukrainian army is pushing south and east in what appears to be an attempt to take advantage of the instability in Russia. Russia’s defence ministry says its forces have repelled attacks near Bakhmut. Fighting is also ongoing in the Zaporizhzhia region and west of Donetsk. Kyiv’s military says more than two dozen battles around Bakhmut, near Avdiivka and Maryinka. Ukraine has said its troops recaptured three villages from Russian forces in its southeast, the first liberated settlements it reported since launching a counteroffensive. Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of a “barbaric act” in his first public comments on the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam, which has caused widespread flooding.
