U.S. homebuyers stuck in ‘divided market,’ economist explains

Existing US home sales drooped to a 13-year low in October. National Association of Realtors (NAR) Chief Economist Lawrence Yun breaks down the unique set of circumstances weighing on homeowners and sellers in the US housing market. “The challenge is that with higher mortgage rates, it’s really hurting the first-time buyers from entering the market. First-time buyers, comprising less than 30% of all transactions, it should be closer to 40% in normal circumstance,” Yun tells Yahoo Finance Live. “So we have a divided market: homeowners doing well, yet the potential homebuyers, renters who want to be part of the ownership society, are struggling to get into the market.” For more […]

And we’ll get back there.” For more expert insight […]

Fed rate outlook and market risks: Fed should proceed carefully, investors need stability: Economist

Yahoo Finance Live sits down with Annex Wealth Management Chief Economist and Strategist, Brian Jacobsen, to discuss the probability of another rate hike. Jacobsen says the Fed’s decision to “proceed carefully” with rate hikes going forward is wise following what he described as them previously “proceeding recklessly.” However, he notes that yields reaching around 4.5% does risk additional hikes. Jacobsen explains that typically the level of yields itself is not problematic, but rather the speed at which rates change. He states that more stability in interest rates “aids business owners and consumers in long-term planning” by giving them time to adapt to the shifting economic landscape. However, the uncertainty surrounding […]
