At least 500 people have been killed in the city of Kharkiv since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the regional emergency service has said. Ukraine’s second-largest city, located in the country’s northeast, has been subjected to relentless bombardment by Russian forces for weeks. Kharkiv has suffered constant shelling by Russian forces. Although they have not been able to take control of the city, the bombing has caused catastrophic damage. A growing number of Ukrainians and Russian dissidents are travelling to Mexico, driving across the border into the United States to seek asylum, a trend that could accelerate as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine forces more people to flee their homes. A 35-hour curfew has been imposed on Kyiv amid a “difficult and dangerous moment” after several Russian strikes in the capital, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The curfew from 8pm (18:00 GMT) on Tuesday until 7am (05:00 GMT) on Thursday was a “decision of the military command”, Klitschko, a former boxing champion, said on Tuesday.
