Kenya’s stolen islands: Three companies could face land grab charges

Anti-corruption investigators in Kenya have recovered stolen islands in a nature reserve in the Indian Ocean. Three companies are now facing possible court proceedings for land-grabbing, and two have agreed to hand over the illegally-acquired land titles for the islands. General Nguema named Gabon’s transitional leader after coup

The African Union, the United Nations and France are condemning yet another military coup in Africa – this time in the Central African country of Gabon. President Ali Bongo is under house arrest and the government has been dissolved. Military coup leaders have appointed General Brice Oligui Nguema as transitional leader. The deposed president’s family has ruled the oil-rich but impoverished country for 55 years. There was jubilation across the country but Bongo is asking people to rise up against the coup. Lake Victoria boat accident kills at least 20 in Uganda; several missing

At least 20 people have died and five are missing after an overloaded boat capsized in the Ugandan waters of Lake Victoria. Police said the vessel was carrying charcoal, fresh foods and fish when the accident happened at 5am (02:00 GMT) on Wednesday.
