Pakistan’s Sialkot: Home of World Cup footballs

They have never qualified for a World Cup but for years, most of the world’s footballs have come from northeast Pakistan. The city of Sialkot makes about two-thirds of them including the official ball for the 2022 World Cup. It is regarded as the world capital of football production and was the official football provider for both the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Afghanistan: Loud blast, gunshots heard near a hotel in Kabul

A series of explosions followed by repeated gunfire have been heard in Kabul. An eyewitness says the explosion took place near a hotel popular with Chinese investors. Mozambique ex-president’s son, 10 others jailed over corruption

A court in Mozambique has sentenced the son of a former president, two ex-spy bosses, and eight others to years in prison for their part in a corruption scandal in which the government sought to conceal huge debts, triggering financial havoc. Immigration staff at busiest UK airports to strike over Christmas

UK Border Force staff plan to go on strike at airports across the country during the busy Christmas period in a dispute over pay, one of the United Kingdom’s biggest trade unions said, as it warned that travellers will face severe disruptions.
