China’s economy slows sharply, fanning global recession fears

China has recorded its slowest economic growth since 2020. The slump is being blamed on its zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy, which has interrupted industry and flattened consumer spending. Second-quarter GDP grew just 0.4 percent, compared to the same period last year. Economists warn the government’s full-year growth target of 5.5 percent is out of reach. Scientists have announced the discovery of an exquisitely preserved dinosaur embryo from at least 66 million years ago that was preparing to hatch from its egg just like a chicken.
