It is been nearly one week since a boat carrying about 700 refugees and migrants sank in the Mediterranean Sea, off the Greek coast. Nine suspected people smugglers accused of playing a role in the tragedy are due to face court in the coming hours. The Greek coastguard has been criticised for not doing enough to save lives. Coastguards have recovered the bodies of at least 78 people, who drowned off the southern coast after their fishing boat sank. Operations are underway to find hundreds of others who are missing and feared dead. Survivors say the boat was carrying up to 700 migrants from several countries including Pakistan, Egypt and Syria. At least four people are dead after an incident involving a small boat in the English Channel between Britain and France, the British government has said. According to British media reports, dozens of people were rescued after a small boat capsized in the icy water off the British coast on Wednesday. British radio station LBC reported that 43 people had been rescued.
