Jordan’s former crown prince, Prince Hamzah, had been liaising with foreign parties over a plot to destabilise the country, the Jordanian deputy prime minister has said. On Saturday the military said it had issued a warning to the prince over actions targeting “security and stability” in the kingdom. Prince Hamzah, King Abdullah’s half-brother, later said he was under house arrest. Several high-profile figures were detained. The former crown prince of Jordan says he is under house arrest in Amman. The military has denied detaining Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, but says a former minister, a member of the royal family and others have been detained as part of a continuing investigation. 0 A medical emergency’s been declared in Jordan after at least seven people being treated for coronavirus died in hospital when their oxygen supply ran out. The health minister has resigned, as the government tries to calm down furious families. Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh ordered an investigation, while King Abdullah II arrived at the hospital to help calm angry families who had gathered outside. Denouncing the incident, the king also ordered the hospital’s director suspended.
