Fans at some of the FIFA Arab Cup games in Qatar will be able to attend in Stadium 974, which was built using shipping containers. After the 2022 World Cup, the roof, the seats, the shipping containers and metal structures will all be sent to other countries to be reused in various projects. Qatar Airways has launched international arbitration seeking at least $5bn from four Arab countries as compensation for blocking it from their airspace and removing it from their markets. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have essentially banned the airline since June 2017 when they cut all ties with Qatar and imposed an air, land and sea blockade on it over accusations of supporting “terrorism”. The match schedule has been released for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The format is now in place but there is plenty of work left to do before the tournament gets under way in 858 days – both in terms of construction and getting teams qualified in a world struggling to cope with a pandemic. The schedule has been designed to reduce the effect on the European football season, and organisers hope the tournament will act as a global celebration of overcoming the coronavirus pandemic. Qatar’s foreign minister said recent efforts to end the blockade against the country have not suceeded. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut all political, trade and transport ties with Qatar in 2017. The foreign minster said that talks to ease tensions ended last month.
