Tanzanian opposition leader and former presidential candidate Tundu Lissu returned home after more than two years in exile in Europe to a cheering crowd on Wednesday, after the government lifted a ban on political rallies. A former lawmaker and a fierce critic of the government, Lissu initially left the country to seek treatment abroad after he was shot 16 times, mostly in his lower abdomen, in his car by unknown gunmen in the administrative capital Dodoma in 2017. Tanzania has renewed efforts to evict thousands of indigenous people from their ancestral land in the north of the country. It’s a move that the government claims will help bolster the country’s tourism industry through big game hunting. The land in question is in Loliondo and is home to 70,000 Masaai people, a semi-nomadic ethnic group. The plan is to move the Maasai into the Ngorgongoro Conservation Area (NCA), a UNESCO designated World Heritage site for its global importance to biodiversity. WHO says Madagascar’s herbal tonic against COVID-19 not a cure

The World Health Organization is warning that Madagascar’s herbal tonic its president claims can cure patients of COVID-19 has no scientific basis.
