Germany has been accused of aiding and abetting genocide in Gaza, in a case before the UN’s top court in The Hague, Netherlands. It was brought by Nicaragua and calls for emergency measures to stop Germany from selling weapons to Israel. It also wants Berlin to restore funding to the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. For five days, the UN’s highest court will be considering the legal implications of Israel’s policies and actions, and what they mean for all other UN member states. The Dutch government says it will appeal a court ruling to stop exports of warplane spare parts to Israel. The announcement came hours after Dutch judges upheld an appeal by human rights organisations. They argued that helping to maintain the F-35 stealth jets contributed to Israel’s violations of international law. The ruling says the Netherlands needs to stop exporting any parts destined for Israel within seven days. The parts are American-owned, but stored in Dutch warehouses ready for shipping.
