ICJ hears Nicaragua’s case against Germany over Israel’s war on Gaza

Germany has been accused of aiding and abetting genocide in Gaza, in a case before the UN’s top court in The Hague, Netherlands.

It was brought by Nicaragua and calls for emergency measures to stop Germany from selling weapons to Israel.
It also wants Berlin to restore funding to the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.
More than 33,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in six months of bombardment – nearly half of them children.

Ambassador Carlos Jose Gomez is representing Nicaragua. He argues that this conflict will last for generations if countries like Germany continue their indiscriminate support of Israel.

Daniel Muller represents Nicaragua’s claims that Germany violates international law by supporting Israel.
He says that German arm deliveries includes anti-tank weapons at times used against buildings and people.

Lawyer and diplomat Tania von Uslar-Gleichen is representing Germany before the International Court of Justice.
She says the government is upholding international law.

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen is monitoring the latest developments from The Hague and Dominic Kane is in Berlin for German’s reaction.
