Russia has blamed the United States for a “barbaric” attack in Crimea that relied on US-provided missiles and killed at least four, including children, and wounded 151 others. Russia’s Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador Lynne Tracy on Monday and accused the US of waging a “proxy war” and said retaliatory measures would “definitely follow”. The first US-made M1 Abrams tanks have arrived in Ukraine. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they would reinforce Kyiv’s armored brigades. He did not specify how many tanks had arrived. Last week US President Joe Biden promised to supply Kyiv with more state-of -the-art weapons. As well as $113bn in security and humanitarian aid. At least 24 people have been injured and two Russian navy ships engulfed in flames following a Ukrainian missile attack on a shipyard in Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea, authorities said. Sevastopol’s Russia-installed governor, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said on the Telegram messaging app that Ukraine carried out the missile attack in the early hours of Wednesday, and Russian air defences attempted to repel the incoming projectiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin claims the Ukrainian counter-offensive is “not succeeding.” Russia’s air defence forces and fleet in the Black Sea shot down ten Ukrainian drones over the Crimean port of Sevastopol, according to Russian officials. Ukraine says it is making gains in the offensive against Russian forces to recapture Bakhmut. The city in eastern Ukraine has been at the heart of fierce fighting for months. Ukraine’s armed forces released a video showing what it said were soldiers storming Russian positions. Ukrainian forces have struck a key bridge linking mainland and Crimea, Russia-appointed Kherson governor says. Chongar bridge has been called ‘the gate to Crimea’ – which is the territory annexed by Russia in 2014. Crimea’s governor says no casualties have been reported, and he says the attack was carried out by a Storm Shadow missile. Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu says Ukraine plans to strike Crimea, with long-range HIMARS artillery and Storm Shadow missiles, according to a report from Russia’s TASS news agency. “The use of HIMARS and Storm Shadow missiles outside the special operation zone will mean the full involvement of the United States and Great Britain in the conflict,” Shoigu said, adding that Russia will retaliate. Russia says its troops on Saturday captured several Ukrainian armoured vehicles and tanks while repelling a counter-offensive in Zaporizhzhia.
