US homeless crisis escalates as rent prices rise

In the United States, and in California, there is increasing alarm over the number of over-fifties who find themselves living on the streets. They make up most of the more than half a million people there who are homeless. Many have been forced from their homes because they are unable to pay large increases in their rent. Theranos’s Holmes found guilty on four counts in fraud trial

A United States jury found Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes guilty of conspiring to defraud investors in the blood-testing startup. Holmes was convicted Monday on four of 11 counts. She was acquitted on four counts, and the jury could not reach a decision on three counts. Prosecutors said Holmes, 37, swindled private investors between 2010 and 2015 by convincing them that Theranos’s small machines could run a range of tests with a few drops of blood from a finger prick. Holmes was also charged with misleading patients about the tests’ accuracy. Holmes rose to Silicon Valley fame after founding Theranos in 2003. SpaceX Crew Dragon astronauts splash down in Gulf of Mexico

George Floyd death: Pressure mounts for US officers to be charged

Anger is spreading in the US over the death of an unarmed Black man after a white police officer knelt on his neck while restraining him on the ground in the city of Minneapolis. As new video of the incident emerged that showed George Floyd was not resisting arrest as originally claimed, the lawyer for his family has spoken of a “pandemic of racism”. Protesters demanding justice for George Floyd have come out in their hundreds in downtown Los Angeles, blocking parts of a freeway and surrounding Highway Patrol cars.
