Israeli police say 300 people have been arrested after violent confrontations with Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Occupied East Jerusalem. This comes after police raided the compound in the early hours of Friday as thousands of worshippers gathered for morning prayers. At least 150 people have been injured in the violence. The Taliban have taken control of Jalalabad, capital of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, early on Sunday morning without a fight, according to officials and a resident. This effectively leaves the capital Kabul as the last major urban area under government control – it follows the Taliban’s seizure of the major northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. The collapse of the eastern city would mean another major setback for President Ashraf Ghani’s government and will put the Taliban effectively in control of most of the country. In South Africa, the army has been deployed to Cape Town, as what’s being described as a “taxi war” continues to escalate. Dozens of people have been killed over the past few months, with rival taxi associations battling it out for ownership of a hotly contested route.
