Half a million people in the Strip are reportedly facing starvation, and all 2.3 million are short of food. 0 Italy’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), an Italian policeman and their Congolese driver have been killed in an ambush on a World Food Programme convoy in the eastern DRC. Luca Attanasio was on a mission in North Kivu province, an area teeming with armed groups. No police or security forces accompanied them. Many of the families fleeing the fighting in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region have been separated after making for neighbouring Sudan. More than 40,000 people have sought refuge there after the conflict between the federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front started in early November. Many are desperately searching for news of their loved ones back home but have been unable to because of the Ethiopian government’s communications blackout in the Tigray region.
