Many of the families fleeing the fighting in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region have been separated after making for neighbouring Sudan.
More than 40,000 people have sought refuge there after the conflict between the federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front started in early November.
Many are desperately searching for news of their loved ones back home but have been unable to because of the Ethiopian government’s communications blackout in the Tigray region.

On 26 November 2020, BBC news anchor, Matthew Amroliwala was asking Dr. Bikila Hurisa of the Prime Minister’s office of Ethiopia about the final push to bring law and order in the Tigray region capital, Mekelle, and the possible civilian casualties during the operation. The government’s prior choice was and still is to let the criminals peacefully surrender. This did not work. The criminal group, in addition to its previous countless crimes, has again recently massacred Ethiopian army members stationed in the region for more than 20 years by selecting the non-Tigreans. This has deeply angered the entire population & the armed forces. People are very angry about the patience of the government for not taking an immediate and direct military action on the criminals. But the government gave excessive patience, seemingly, for the sake of the civilians there and gave them 72 hours ultimatum twice. The junta group rejected that. Then the government remains with no choice but to use military action by trying to avoid civilian casualties as much as possible. In the discussion between Mr. Matthew with Dr. Bikila, Mr. Matthew was repeatedly trying to connect this last resort of military action with a war crime. Basically, working for the rule of law & doing war crime are two completely different things both in content and format.
Why hasn’t BBC, if genuine, asked independent people other than Mr. Daniel Berhane, who himself is a criminal Junta member under hunt for treason?? Why hasn’t BBC, if genuine, not done a focused report on the 600+ Amhara people massacred & found secretly buried in mass in a small town called Mai Kadra. The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International [@ ] & others, of course, except BBC, have reported and documented this massacre and mass burial of these 600+ innocent people. The killers are now in Mekelle together with the master Junta group. How does this sound to BBC?? How would Mr. Matthew’s country, UK or for that matter any other country have tried to solve such an issue any differently? What would the UK government have done if such a criminal group killed tens of thousands of its own British army members in the dark somewhere in UK? Do you call this operation a war crime? Shame! Justice must be served.
Dialogue with such a criminal group is a dream that will never come true. The government has to continue all of its ongoing communication efforts to inform the residents of Mekelle to either leave the town, not go outside of their homes, or to be far from possible military targets. This might help to minimize and/or avoid unwanted civilian casualties. But the usage of military force to bring the criminals to justice or to finish them by force is something that cannot be compromised at all costs!! Let the world know that in the last minutes of this offensive, the Junta group has prepared its killing squads in the town. The squad, wearing Ethiopian military uniforms, has finalized its preparation to assassinate many non-Tigreans & some innocent Tigreans living in the encircled town of Mekelle. This inhuman act is a dirty calculation by the master criminals for the sole purpose of making the world believe that the assassination was done by the Ethiopian army. This information is currently under dissemination to the people in the town now. On the other hand, if, in any unfortunate way, any external force is going to push the prime minister to sit down for dialogue with these criminals, then the unwanted but highly consequential result will immediately take place all over the country. This action will primarily make the Tigreans targets for a direct revenge all over the country and an unstoppable full-scale civil war will start in the entire country.
