Ukraine army advances: Fighting intensifies near Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia

Ukrainian forces have launched several attacks on Russian positions – since Saturday’s mutiny. Some of the Russian forces had to leave their positions because of the attempted rebellion by Wagner group – but are starting to return to the front lines. The Ukrainian army is pushing south and east in what appears to be an attempt to take advantage of the instability in Russia. Russia’s defence ministry says its forces have repelled attacks near Bakhmut. Fighting is also ongoing in the Zaporizhzhia region and west of Donetsk. Ukraine war: Russia says it captured German tanks in Zaporizhzhia

Russia says its troops on Saturday captured several Ukrainian armoured vehicles and tanks while repelling a counter-offensive in Zaporizhzhia. Footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry shows Russian forces inspecting a German-made Leopard tank and two US Bradley infantry vehicles. Dnipro dam explosion: Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson damaged by blast

Ukraine and Russsia are accusing each other of blowing up a major dam , sparking warnings of severe flooding in Russian controlled territory downstream in the region of Kherson. Water levels have risen by 10 metres in the area. The dam is on the Dnipro river in the Moscow-held region of Kherson. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is holding an emergency cabinet meeting. People are being evacuated from surrounding villages. Ukraine’s military blames Russia for the damage. But Moscow-appointed officials say the dam was hit by Ukrainian shelling. LATEST UPDATES: Russia forces ‘encircled’ in Lyman, Ukraine’s nuclear plant director detained

Ukraine has encircled Russia’s forces around the eastern town of Lyman, in an operation that is still under way, a Ukrainian military spokesperson said on Saturday. The director-general of Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been detained by a Russian patrol, according to Energoatom, the state agency in charge of the plant. Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed the annexation of territory seized in his invasion in four regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia – amounting to 15 percent of total Ukrainian territory on Friday.
