Here’s why I’m a financial minimalist, why I chose to save almost all of my money, and why I always invest and live below my means – enjoy! Add me on Instagram: GPStephan

This video is being made because several of you have sent me a facebook post mentioning me, by Alex Becker. The overall message of the post was just this: buying “things,” getting caught in a consumerist lifestyle, and living to impress others is always going to be a losing battle…so instead, we should strive to REDUCE our overhead, REDUCE our extravagances, and get back to the basics of what we all really value the most: FREEDOM. NOT THINGS.
First of all, having any type of financial “overhead” just stresses me out. Having a big mortgage payment, or having a big car payment, or having ANYTHING that l need to be financially obligated to makes me feel trapped, and makes me feel as though I’m on a hamster wheel just running to keep it going.
Having that “Type” of stress causes me to resent the work I do, and stifles my own creativity when it comes to pursuing my own passions – it just drains the fun out of it. This is why I’ve always preferred a financially minimalist lifestyle – the less financial responsibility I have, the more freedom I have…then, the more freedom I have, the less stress I have – and the less stress I have, the happier I am to pursue more creative and fulfilling work.
I’ll tell you what all that saved money really brings you: OPTIONS. That’s it.
Money is NOT for the purpose of flaunting…it’s NOT for the purpose of trying to IMPRESS random strangers. It is NOT for the purpose of measuring your own self worth, or feeling a sense of superiority over someone else…but, it does give you OPTIONS. That is worth more than ANYTHING I could’ve ever imagined.
For me, that option was not ever needing to work a job I absolutely loathed…I had the option to pursue the work that meant something, to me…it meant I had the option to spend every day doing something that gives me purpose and meaning to my life…and that NEVER would’ve been the case if I had to sacrifice those values in order to work a job I disliked, just to support the cars, and the houses, and the luxuries I never needed in the first place.
This is really, at its core, the entire culture of the FIRE movement – Financial Independence, Retire Early. It’s a community and mindset that you don’t need to be 65 to retire, if you keep track of your expenses, save your income, and grow your wealth to the point where you can live off your investments indefinitely.
And THAT is really the entire point of the financial independence movement – it’s spending money on things that really add value to your life, and SAVING with the intention of building a lifestyle that supports that. And while financial independence certainly doesn’t happen overnight, it can absolutely be a goal to work towards and one day achieve – because the less money you spend, the faster you can get there. And the more you can smash the like button.

Graham, do you know what is the “Velocity of money”?? Around 70 % of the United States economy is consumer spending if people don’t spend money you are going to have a civil war…
Don’t keep the score too early dude. There are infinite possibilities for society calibration. You don’t have to choose the negative ones though.
Hi Graham. Love the channel and your openness and honesty and damn good sense.. Hell I wish I had been as aware as you at your age. still never too late. now what can an old man do on YouTube?.. lol Calculators hadn’t been invented by the time I left school Let alone computers.
Have you ever looked at the UK trading market I would value your opinion on the companies over here. keep up the good work whippersnapper.
We should have bought those $3.00 H&M T-shirts. They are now $6.99 😜
Buddy has a $5000 dollar drum kit that he can barely play lol
If everybody did this there would be no economy or society! Thank the consumers this is even possible!
How much is your watch?
Didn’t you invest during the housing crisis of 2008? A lot of people got screwed over because of that and now have nothing left.
😺
I think governments should take action against banks, and other loans companies. They need to check if banks, give loans to the people who can’t afford to pay back.
Ginel George 😂😂 They have been doing that for years. Subprime loans have been underwritten by the government forever. Subprime is a fancy term for people who can’t afford bubblegum, but can get a home loan, or an auto loan, because the government says they deserve a chance. Romberg 2008? You see how well that worked out?
do you excavate fossils?
im as rich as you
really big houses feel toy-ish
(without function)
same here
Love the way you think !
Do you know why people buy stuff ??? Specifically when they know it that they just can’t afford it, but still they buy …
Just like any compulsive behaviour… Buying stuff unnecessarily is also compulsive behaviour…. And that Just can’t be fixed by trying to live a minimalistic life style. Mind will take you back to your old behavior pattern, doesn’t matter how hard you try to do it.
What really needs to fixed is the mind…. Without working on mind there is no Freedom to choose as to what you should or shouldn’t do.
All these videos are such a waste of time – I’m amazed at how people watch these videos that don’t teach anything – gibberish
U r amazing….I have already started following this minimalist lifestyle …..just felt so right after listening to ur video 🙂
Is Graham the guy Dave Ramsey is actually referring to when he say ‘some guy filming in his moms basement ‘ type comments?
Sophie Gist 😂😂 Yes. Dave has a lot of Preconceived notions that will never change, no matter how often he is proven wrong.
“The focus is FREEDOM, not things”….he says sat next to a T-Rex skull
Financial minimalist, that talks about nothing but money. Yawn.
Would you go for a $100 hooker or a $500 one to save money?
$150,000 a month.. this is what separates him from the rest of us
Thanks for the tips. But i prefer the term financial ‘somewhere in between’ tho’.. We just live once, so treat or indulge ourselves once in a while.. i’d rather live happy than die rich 😁
I feel like he wants to sell me a duplexflat 🤦🏼♂️
Every person is different. I don’t mind a large car payment because I drive a lot for work and day trips and vacation. It’s very important to me. But I pinch pennies when it comes to clothing, food, don’t go to Starbucks, etc
Tks for share yours ideias!!! Brazil!!!
So if I save $800/month would I be a millionaire soon?
Just remember There is only ONE LIFE …..so enjoy
buys his lambo with rental income…
What you say truly resonates with me and tells me I am on the right path.
A few years ago, I was laid off. I had no savings, 5 figure debt, and not many options but to move in with my parents. Once I was out I became a financial minimalist.
Fast forward to two years later. I’m living in an expensive place making good money. I was not expecting to be laid off due to COVID. However, this time, I was ready. I paid off all my debt and have a comfortable savings plan. My options are wide open and it has allowed me to dream big and chase my passions.
I am going to buy and restore an RV and drive around America to see every National Park. My total monthly expenses on the road will be $200 less per month than what I pay in rent. I could easily go get a loan for a $100,000 monster RV. Or! I could spend way less, be creative, and customize it exactly how I want. The options financial independence has given me exceeds all my expectations.
good advices, thank you
Wise words.
Congrats on getting to means greater than consumption. Good luck coining “financial minimalist”. Beware that social media lynch mobs are always looking for a new straight white male rich guy to shame into obscurity. Your suggestion that people be responsible for their own future goes against everything they are fighting for.
This video hit me hard
TFW you want someone to be your girlfriend… 🤔
But you also want to be financially independent…😭
But she likes to go Dutch… 😉
It costs money to show off. A race that can never be won.
Love your vids and I’m 19 right now with about 20k to play with what would you recommend down to do anything.
Just enjoy money you earn, u can’t take it with you when u die
You’re a rockstar. Who cares about $ 4 coffee from Starbucks ?? I’ve had much better tasting coffee at cheaper places. You’re my guru. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Subscribed.
I wish I had been as smart as you & made better decisions when I was younger. I’m 34, no debt, but very little and slowly growing savings and investments (my income has been below 25k for years).
I live in my affortability and no worry at all if any time I lost my job.
i never thought people could boast about not drinking starbucks and wearing cheap clothes like it is a better choice. It is a choice but not necessarily better. In the end the objective of accumulating all of that money from saving is to splurge with it. You either drink that starbucks now, or later
If you try to apply for jobs and they ask you where you live and you say …..homeless ? 😳
Proud of you!
“If you buy things you don’t need, you will soon sell things you need.” – Warren Buffet
He’s absolutely right. It should be about having peace and trnaquility and not putting yourself in stressful situations because you want live lavishly. Freedom is everything and the only way to achieve freedom now-a-days is to rid yourself of debt.
So much #Truth man! AWESOME! This exactly how I want to live, getting there. #Smart thinking.
Please take over my life…cause I’m doing something definitely wrong
This is extremely true and well said!!!
My gosh I really like your channel- however speak to fast! 😭🥰Sorry – true
3:05 Financial Freedom gives you Options.
Lovely video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you tried – Toniam Blogging Boheimeth (google it)? It is a good exclusive guide for discovering the easiest path to financial freedom using email minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor got astronomical success with it.
Totally love this !
Want to know something you’re talking about your idol and you’ve slowly over this past week became one of mine and have inspired/motivated me more in this past week with your vids more than anyone ever has
There is so much value in this video
GREAT VIDEO!!!
I love this video I want be be a Financial Minimalist!!!!
I’ve finally realized it. This man has achieved true inner peace with a Buddhist mindset. Detached from the material world yet a millionaire at the same time
If you allow your vision to only see, where seems possible or reasonable, you limit the true potential of your success. I like you. It’s nice to find ppl with the same mindset. Believe ppl like you and myself are always at peace but everyone around always want you to believe something is wrong with you. I just laugh at them and watch them live their stressful life . Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and getting the same results
Graham, what kind of watch is it you are wearing in the video???
Lol when someone’s like can you get this I’m going to say no I’m a financial minimalist. I love it.
I want to be just like u when I grow up!!!
Dude, I love your page but,…This one is by far the best.

So handsome lol
As long as living this way make’s you happy and continues to keep you happy then it is perfect for you! BTW I believe this life style is Genius. If I made your income i definitely would limit my spending with the exception of traveling, because that is what would make me happy❣️🥂Cheers!
One day God showed me that i spend less than my passive investment income. Life no longer has any stress for me. I will still work fulltime for another two years than i will do something more lucrative and partime. I still earn money to give my mother money and to pay tithe to finance the telling of gospel and money is a game now.
By the way, i can make $1 sushi from youtube recipe.
it has point but with that money still spending nothing why living why working that much why buyinf more properties then
respect very smart
Try to save money and invest it
If you have money you have freedom.
I think people who already know you want to know why you’re a minimalist to the EXTENT that you are. I mean, what if you really loved that $5 Starbucks drink? You still wouldn’t buy it? Or why is your idea of rewarding yourself going out to McDonalds for a couple of dollar menu cheeseburgers? You won’t upgrade to In n Out? Or you won’t buy yourself a nice steak? For someone of your wealth, it’s just pennies. Is it really about the dollars or the principle? Maybe you’re trying to get to a trillion dollars, in which case I understand why you’d stick to McD’s cheeseburgers.
I could never save a penny, am doing it another way 🙂
Be frugal. Build assets which last for long term little by little.
When you die, you can pass it to your children and grand-children.
Why do you talk so fast? You sound like you’re really stressed and struggling to make money on Youtube.
I never find 7% return
the cost of freedom is always high
Can you reccomend a good Fire FB group?
I cant stop following his hands with my eyes 😆
FIRE !!!!
i need that in my life
You are not crazy I’m very practical too👍
He’s the ikea of rich people👍
Graham loves his sushi
Luckily I have no friends so I have no one to impress. Love seeing my savings pile up with no debt.
H&M shirts are 3 dollars in the states? TF
Dang it spectrum! 🤣
Dont have kids
I don’t want be the richest man of the cemetery. You don’t know how long you gonna live. Just seize the moment. Don’t splurge but also enjoy the day because you don’t know if it’s gonna be your last one
Hmmm lets see, leatcher jacket, expensive watch, designer lamp, desk, glass vase, dinosaur skull, fancy posters, leatcher arm chair. Yup financial minimalist indeed.
He is right. Do not focus on things. How about health first, happiness, financial freedomm. Buying expensive things don’t make you happy.
Like a Minimalist Dr Disrespect🤣❤️
I luv this boy. Thia vid Made me smile
A 20 cent iced coffee? I rather drink my <1 cent hot tea instead! ^^
