Senegal’s army says they have captured three rebel bases in the southern Casamance region.
They are trying to take back all of its fertile lands, referred to as Senegal’s breadbasket.
The conflict is one of Africa’s oldest, starting in 1982.
Al Jazeera’s Nicholas Haque reports from Dakar.

Just live peacefully. Everything belongs to God. We own nothing!
From Tanzania🇹🇿 go Senegal ♥️♥️
Thanks you my friend
Thanks you
Do you meen the government or the rebels?
Now you know why conflicts begin:
1) outside interference and
2) selfish borders
Imagine if every square km was a country surrounded by borders and guards! Time to abolish egoistic borders and live under a spirit of mutual WIN-WIN cooperation.
Every country needs a strong and protected border to prevent outsider threats from entering. We don’t live in a fairy tale with unicorns. Some may think that we ought to, or even that we do, but that’s a pipe-dream.
Obviously you haven’t heard of the borderless countries of the EU.
Based Senegal. Keep doing what it takes to root out evil.
what makes them evil
@Lamin K Kassama stfu u gambian hater. always jealous of Senegal.
@D Kory who is jealous of that bad neighbors who treat her neighbors as trash except when they have interest in those countries and then they start calling senegambia. chenmm lakat
cassamase and Senegal are not the same they are different in all aspects
@Juicee Life alright blame it one the white men its trendy now to use white people as a scapegoat nowadays
So you admit that having more than one ethnic group in each state doesn’t work?
Interesting, the you probably don’t like multiculturalism and diversity
@Miguel Conceição why did u assume it was the white men I said Europeans. And I do believe in multi culturalism but the problems in Africa started with colonialism and extortion. If you read my previous reply you’ll ready that I said that they should live togheter so that nobody starves.
So after the colonialism the weirdest border were Drewn that torn family apart and put some rival tribes togheter ( example Hutu and Tutsi ) these are facts.
stfu u gambian hater
We are preaching for unity across africa and backwards idiots like u still think about tribalism. The world is a big competition we cant still be arguing about tribes in 2021, dumbass
@LBM Media how stupid you sound..how can unity come when the other party is forcefully occupying the other ? you know how bad Senegalese it next door neighbor, the Gambia..
let’s Senegalese stop their evilness..they are push by French to occupy Gambia too but that will be their end..
@bertoforever07 what are the evidence that Senegal and Gambia are the same..to you know how bad Senegalese treat Gambian ? secondly, Senegal bigger land but is half desert that’s why they are after cassamase and Gambia because the fertile land is belongs to us not in their area
@Lamin K Kassama kid, go and study your history lessons
@bertoforever07 ok Mr. history professor teach me more about history
@Lamin K Kassama Senegalese and Gambian are the same people lol just senegal speaks french and Gambia English
@R3flux Gaming no we were not even the same even before colonial time

Bravo army senegalais
Congrats our diambars 🇸🇳 it’s great. Casamance deserve better.
Mr. Haque, what rice comes from Casamance ?? The rice we consume is imported from Asia precisely because of this conflict…
Senegal don’t rely on Casamance to survive. The Niayes and Senegal river provide most of foods consumed by Dakar households.
Brother what’s going wrong with you? What are you speaking about? Does your comment have something to see with this topic? Oooh goodness!!!

Free my Mama land Casamasce
Good job
I’m from the Casamance and really pray God for that rebellion to end so that people would be able to own back their lands. We’re senegalese and no need to separate the country in too.
“The region receives year round rainfalls” – what’s this for bullshit?! It receives the same 3-4 months of rain as all the other countries around it! Talk about sloppy journalism! What else did this guy get wrong? 😠
I think the central Government of Senegal should Develop Casamance Infrastructure like they are doing in other parts of Senegal so as to win the Hearts and Minds of the Rest of Casamancse. Thanks.
worry about microstate gambia please
@D Kory Yeah , that is your micro concept about THE GAMBIA, but be very careful it might hit you back.
@Baboucarr Jiteh Bojang Dont listen to this idiot, senegal and gambia are one
Maybe Casamance can be governerned as a semi autonomous region, that way they manage their affairs while enjoying a win-win collaboration with the Senegalese state. This is what kinda calmed things down between Tanzania and Zanzibar.any ways, much love from your brothers and sisters in Cameroon🇨🇲🇸🇳
A marvellous job done by Senegalese troops 🤝
I doubt this offensive will end the rebellion.
I know for sure Senegal will never see peace if casamance don’t own their land back from the oppressors (Senegal)
The MFDC are not bandits but fighting for their land from the oppressors France andSenegal. . Victory to MFDC
