New attempts are being made to move the huge container ship that has been blocking the Suez Canal in Egypt for the past five days.
The stern of the vessel is now free – and the Egyptian authorities say they are hoping higher tides and the arrival of more tugboats on Sunday will help their operation.
And as tankers queue, oil prices are rising – the blockage is another blow to global trade already disrupted by COVID-19.
It remains unclear when the Ever Given will be refloated.
The salvage firm hired to extract it says it could be free within days. But some maritime experts are sceptical.

It’s very surprising all 25 crew in this international mother vessels are indians . Also to note the captain must be very experienced. Did he gave any SOS message.for bad weather. He could anchor the ship at center of canal when he felt the imminent danger. What was the physiological condition of all crew. I hope they were not under influence of alcohol. It’s a tragedy of gigantic proportion. Want to believe that it’s not an act of sabotage. All area must be investigated very carefully.

Put “huge” chains on back end of the Evergreen; and, on the shore, put huge industrial winches, on massive poles; then pull the back end toward the shore. Or, use the anchor and winch it; it would have the same effect. Move the back end of the Evergreen enough so that other traffic can pass.

Just an idea: I am not a scientist, not an engineer, not a mariner, just an interested reader and this is the idea:
1) put engines FULL AHEAD( the ship will not move at all, so I think)
2) then steer to PORT for a while
3) then steer to STARBOARD for a while
4) and carry on doing this a quite a while
5) the ship (which is not moving forward) MAY PERHAPS start swinging at the stern and who knows, the forward section
just might be a little FREER to be pulled one side or the other.

Resolution!!! You need to raise the boat while supporting the haul, I get it! Raise it by 1-2 inches by use of heavy duty airbags on each side of boat, while creating haul support. You will have rope go under the boat, 6 feet apart. 300 airbags on each side of the boat. (600x15k pounds lifted=9 million pound lift). Then, get 2 jet F-16 engines pushing air against the side of the boat (front) boat, while 2 jet engines pull the boat (on the back). 2-3 ships on each end if canals, pushing water towards the boat that is stuck, which will create small tsunami wave from each side. Then as it all is coming together, sequenced explosive to really cause that water to focus on the stuck boat, with a water pressure wave effect, you got “ air and water giving back on what it did, reversal effect”! I bet it would work!!! (Last option, release/remove the anchor completely from the boat to reduce weight and have tug boats tow on it-backup). Sequenced correctly, it is simple, cheap and effective. the problem is simple.. the draft of the boat is greater than the depth of the water at points in the Suez Canal.. the person who was responsible was a. the captain of the boat.. b. any owner or manager of the company that told him to ignore the draft of the boat as compared to the depth of the water.. I heard about this on the first day as many did.. I said to my daughters at the time.. they have to remove cargo.. the problem was not complicated nor did it require deep thought.. buoyancy doesn’t change just because it would make your life easier.. the delay has been because people who should have known better wanted to ignore facts and reality for their own convenience..
as for this cargo not reaching destinations.. it is not as bad as some would argue.. most of the cargo is not perishable and we can all pretty much wait a week for our coffee pots or knickknacks.. as for the car parts, they should be retooling for electric anyway so unless the parts were for that side of things it shouldn’t matter most people haven’t had an income for a year and are not out shopping for a new car(unless it’s to replace the home they can no longer pay rent on)..
