Experts have boarded the container ship Ever Given, which was dislodged on Monday six days after it got stuck in the Suez Canal, seeking to investigate what caused the grounding that shook the global shipping industry. Shipping traffic through Egypt’s Suez Canal has once again resumed, with the Ever Given ship now unstuck. On Monday, tug boats towed the giant container ship to the centre of the canal where it had been jammed for nearly a week. About 15 percent of world shipping traffic passes through the Suez Canal and the blockage had disrupted global supply chains. The Ever Given has been “successfully refloated” on the Suez Canal, according to Inchcape Shipping Services, a week after it ran aground in high winds blocking one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. “She is being secured at the moment. Suez Canal salvage teams were alternating between dredging and tugging on Sunday to dislodge a massive container ship blocking the busy waterway, but two sources said efforts had been complicated by rock under the ship’s bow. Dredgers working to dislodge the stranded vessel have so far shifted 27,000 cubic metres (954,000 cubic feet) of sand, to a depth of 18 metres (59 feet), and efforts would continue around the clock, wind conditions and tides permitting, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said in a statement.
