The head of the Indonesian navy says a missing submarine with 53 sailors on board will run out of oxygen by Saturday.
A search and rescue operation is under way where an oil spill has been spotted off the coast of Bali.

India has also airlifted its deep dive submarine rescue vessel along with autonomous very deep dive search vehicle. Both of these work in tandem India was the earliest country to respond. India operates similar type of German submarine. But Al Jazeera will not name India in the rescue operation as it will be against Al Jazeera’s anti-India propaganda.

Indonesia’s vessels maintenance suck. The government officials are so corrupted that they often neglact the maintenance and keep using poorly maintained vessels for many many years. They even sent a 60 years old vessel which they knew it was beyond repair for docking just for the sake of absorbing that year docking budget where the corruption practice usually takes place (usually a set up contract by bribed officials and the winning company).
It’s sad that those personels who operate the vessels have to suffer such consequences while protecting the nation.

Hmmm…. from what I recall Argentina lost a few dozen men when a German-made submarine sank in 2017. The obvious question: why do nations like Argentina or Indonesia think they need subs? At least Indonesia has the $$ to pay for subs, I have no idea why/how Argentina got one other than Germany thanking them for….. 🙂 hahahahaha

All dead id say from an implosion. Oil slick on the surface is not a good sign. The 6 decade old sub has sank past its maximum Collapse depth of 300 meters. The Indo navy saying its ok for 500 meters, but the test depth for this sub was 240 meters but after its refit and aging hull it was lowered to a collapse depth of 200 meters, its now 300-400 meters past its collapse depth.
Very sad really as they never had a chance. RIP

I think Sub marines need to be upgraded, They must add Emergency Abort Tube systems. Tubes that will rise up and float going up from the bottom of the sea to the water surface. This systems must be support with 2 weeks MRE, Medical kits and GPS.

Argentina submarine San Juan S42 built by Germany in 1984 sank in 2017 after 33 years in service. Indonesian S402 is also built by Germany in 1980 used for 40 years should have been out of service. Indonesian navy was pushing its luck and risked good people just to save money. Looks like Indonesia has a problem with defense minister trying to save money by going over every countries over fighters to the limit by making false deals which he has no intention to honor.

It should have an emergency buoy that can be released from the sub on a cable and it sends out a distress call when it reaches the surface.

Indonesia is a good neighbor of Singapore; sometime we do have some grumble; but we are cousins and we support each other.
They lost contact at 3pm on Thursday and the military said that they have 3 days worth of oxygen before running out. That means that the oxygen will run out on Saturday at 3pm.
At the time of writing this they only have roughly 2hours 55minutes left of oxygen before running out.
I pray for their safety and that a miracle will happen soon god bless 🙏

Not trying to be a pessimist, but they are most likely gone. I know everyone here is praying to God and what not but let’s be realistic here. As harsh as it sounds, they are doomed but I hope they can find it eventually and recover their bodies for their loved ones.

This submarine was a german design from the eighties, it was well maintained with a capable crew (the words of a Dutch naval commander who visited that base).
A submarine is always a dangerous enterprise, even brand new (US and Soviet) submarines have gone under in the past.

Indonesian defense minister Probowo delayed 2 years for new submarines purchase from S Korea which could have avoided this accident. Probowo wanted to buy 35 years old Brazil German made Type 209 retiring same submarine as this one. French and Spanish submarines cost three time for new submarines with maintenance cost during 30 years and bring it to Europe which also delayed for service. Argentina lost 33 years old German made submarine made in 1984 till 2017 accident sunk and now this. All these submarines accidents has same issue which was that they were used more than 30 years. Japan replace their submarines every 20 years and Western countries replace their submarines every 30 years. If Probowo risked his life with 30+ years old submarines then he wouldn’t waste time with old submarines and just purchase what is best money can buy for new submarines which was S Korean modified Type 209.

As a submariner, i can feel their pain in vibration & lack of oxygen. 🙂 This is the horrific way of dead. Under water, no one is to help..
They must have tried to open the hatch, but they can’t due to the water pressure.
Clearly this is their navys fault, they didnt check it properly before the sail & dive ! It must came from electrical wiring fault.
