Recent 🇹🇼 Taiwan survey shows that Nearly 90 percent of the public identify themselves as Taiwanese and about two-thirds said they are willing to fight for the country in case of war, a survey released yesterday by the Taiwan New Constitution Foundation showed.
The question about national identity showed that 89.9 percent identify themselves as Taiwanese and 4.6 percent as Chinese, while 1 percent consider themselves to be both, the poll showed.
It was for the other guy. Anyway, the 1992 is pointless that started since 1987 when KMT allowed cross straits visits for KMT vets.
The whole entire point remains that Taiwan was never part of CCP’s PRC control and since 1895, it was ceded to Japan. Post war Japan only surrendered to KMT, not CCP. Never once CCP ruled Taiwan, therefore what is there to reunify? More like annexation, they should call a spade a spade.
As I said, 1992 consensus is a pointless thing that the KMT is still running in circle with it and the commies are still insisting their one China principle which is pure rubbish down their throat.
In short, Taiwan island was never CCP control and there is no sense in reunification to begin with. It is more like an invasion to seize Taiwan. And Taiwan is a success story of a version of China that walked into democracy since the late 80s. That should be protected from the filthy hands of communist bandits from up north.
@Shen Hua technically Japan did NOT surrender Formosa to KMT. Japan renounced its claim to Formosa in the 1951 San Francisco Treaty. Within the language of treaty, Japan handed the administration of Formosa to USA.
That is correct but a military protest resulted USA handed to ROC military governance. There was initial plans for ROC in Japan, but abandoned. This is old documents.

It is in the media regularly and just this week they are beginning to use x-ray machines to scan the ground outside the residential school in Brantford, Ontario to search for bodies of children buried secretly many years ago. Second, Ching dynasty”is a different people and different country, Ching didn’t see itself as China nor Chinese, so China hasn’t ruled Taiwan, it was Ching ruled Taiwan, and in ROC period of China, ROC didn’t rule Taiwan at all, ROC flees to Taiwan as parasite, control Taiwanese people with terror. The First World War started in Serbia, the Second World War started in the Czech Republic, and the Third World War started in Taiwan. To add, after Japan surrendered, it signed the San Francisco Peace Treaty document. Japan abandoned Taiwan instead of transferring it to China. , China has no basis for Taiwan’s sovereignty. Hi, here is a young Taiwanese thoughts from me:
We ourselves think that we are already an independent country and not part of China.
This should be the thinking of most middle-aged and young people in Taiwan.
Except for about half of the elderly who think we are Chinese, we no longer think we are Chinese. I’m only Taiwanese.
Those half of the elderly are usually vested interests of the Kuomintang, or old thinkers left over from the party-state era.
They are just because they controlled some high-ranking public officials and military power in the past years, which led to a higher voice. In fact, they can hardly represent the ideas of most Taiwanese.
In the news that I have known and accepted, I have never heard of any local or central government in the United States saying that “Taiwan is a part of China.”
In terms of whether Taiwan is a part of China, I think those of us who live in Taiwan should have more say than China and the United States.
We don’t really want to continue to maintain the status quo, but are forced to maintain the status quo.
The existence of “China” in our country name makes most countries unwilling to recognize our sovereignty, but deleting “China” in the country name will cause China to have an excuse to go to war, so our “maintain status quo” is compelling.

I think it started during Ma yinjiu’s time as president when military service was henceforth reduced to 4 months and Taiwan began with regular soldiers instead of traditional conscript system. But how greatly had it benefitted both in defense and economically when these young people now have more time pursuing a career? Or Taiwan can’t have both at the same time.

China not only has tension with Taiwan, but also Japan and several countries around south china sea. If China decided to invade Taiwan taking it by force. Most likely Japan and US will involve and most countries in the world will be affected. In the Hong Kong riots in 2019, many Hong Kong people were frightened by the black riots and had to wear black clothes when they went out to prevent being beaten. So it seems that there are many people who support the black violence. The current situation in Taiwan is similar. It is very dangerous to openly support national reunification. Some Taiwanese have to protect themselves and pretend to support Taiwan independence. When the People’s Liberation Army landed on Taiwan, Taiwanese who supported the reunification of the motherland immediately became the majority. No Taiwanese will sacrifice themselves for the sake of Taiwan independence and the DPP. The Manchus (Qing Dynasty) never controlled the whole island. Once they conquered the Ming loyalists that were holed up there they found it a troublesome territory. After WWII Taiwan did not revert to China. Chiang Kai-shek was delegated to accept the Japanese surrender on the island. With the 1954 Treaty of San Francisco Japan relinquished all claims to Taiwan but it was not given ‘back’ to China which post Korean War was not deemed worthy. The U.S. does not acknowledge that Taiwan is part of China, only that it is the view of the CCP and the Nationalist Party which governed Taiwan at the time.
