As soon as Trump figures out that China won (even if it was a win win) he will cancel the deal and further erode / completely destroy US credibility.
I don’t think China is the winner at all. The trade truce will let China give money to US, buying more agricultural products, chips, and tuitions as the results of Trump’s threats.
Nope, China won. China will continue to manipulate its currency, push its shady belt and road initiative, build on the disputed South China Sea territory, keep its markets closed (relatively speaking) to foreign investors, etc.
China’s trade negotiation plan for the next few years (trade negotiations are going to be long and slow): to build/pay US’s old/low growth/low value industries (farming, low-skilled manufacturing, etc.), so America doesn’t fuck with China’s (primary, fundamental) plan of dominating the Information Age (robotics, AI, electric cars, telecommunications, etc.).
@J K what’s sad is that no matter how much China wins and no matter how badly the U.S. loses, Trump supporters will still believe that we won because we ALWAYS win and we NEVER lose. Mark my words. Trump supporters are going to be strutting around acting as if we’ve indeed put the Chinese in their place.
China wins because other countries are tired of US bullying, and sanctions, and changing directions always
@50 Pct Amused More sad is China love to see Trump to be reelected again next year.
America foreced China to be more self-sufficient, buy more from different countries, and made the rest of the world to realize they cannot rely on America too much. The most important thing American lost is the credibility.
if ps4 or xbox cost 800 dollar. trump will lost his president at the next election. he knows it
What did Trump concede? The United States is charging tariffs. China has agreed to buy American agricultural goods. China’s strength is in its economic success. Those American who hope to destroy that success are likely doomed to failure. Trump seems to have backed away from the agenda of destruction towards one of concessions from China on trade . That is a win for everyone in the world who hopes for a constructive future. It is only a defeat for those who live for the destruction of war.
both sides lose, no winner.
In the short term, and even the medium term, absolutely. The question is in the long term, who will be the winner?
I agree that China will most likely win in the long term, but not for the reasons mentioned here. But rather for geography. The US has maintained its #1 status because we have a monopoly over maritime trade. We are surrounded by oceans on either side, which while provides absolute protection from foreign powers, also isolates us from foreign markets.
As of now shipping is king. But what if China is spurned to complete its land routes linking the Asian and European markets? CPEC is links oil and natural gas from the Middle East directly to China. And even maritime routes in East Asia are starting to pivot ever so slightly to China.
Simple, the one avoided the recession would be the winner!
what a sharp nose this guy has. just saying.
US, the most egoist country in the world.
For America, win win is lost. wow
China will let Trump win. That’s ok.
China appears to be the winner in the trade war. “He who laughs last, laughs the loudest…”
The currency part of this hasn’t kicked off yet…those someone out there, really think the US is going to pay off its 22 trillion national debt…The real fun will kick off when they start to monetize this debt…yes, not many understand the implications of such an action. Somehow I suspect the Chinese do…and it must terrify them…
@chong kl My friend you covered a lot of ground there…each point rightly justifies an answer…
However, I’m not sure how much of your patience I can impose on…
The current US president wants the dollar to devalue…it’s government policy at this stage…this will make America produced goods cheaper without reducing workers pay…and making them more competitive abroad.
Oh, you’ll get no argument on the West plunder of World resources…a shameful part of its history, it has sadly not faced up to yet.
China’s development does indeed mirror the West’s. I for one don’t critique that in any way…China’s was indeed the original victim of intellectual property theft…back then I don’t think it was called that…I think it came under the broad umbrella of imperialism…so again “what sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander”
China’s long and proud history gifted the World many great advancements…I’ve no doubt what so ever China will amaze and astound the World again with its achievements…
In mirroring the West development though it is making some of the same mistakes the West paid dearly for.
Some things are always a bad idea…” biting the hand that feeds you” is as old as time itself…and for a good reason.
Nixon opened the door to the World that China itself closed…conflict will close the door again…
China is a proud country and has every right to be proud…conflict has always been the source of China’s pain…following the path of Western aggression will only repeat the mistakes of the past…
Building bridges will always get you further down the road that burning them…
The West has learned from many of its mistakes…not all by any means…it’s still learning…It would be a great partner….but the worse enemy you could ever imagine…China is making its decision as we chat..
@ikm64 Well that is the reality, I am just a ordinary people who has no power to change the world. Nothing much I can do about. We are human, and history will keep repeating. Empire rise and fall. No matter how you hope the country to be the best. It will fall one day, Rome, Nazi, Egypt, Soviet, UK, even US and China will be no exception.
@ikm64 About the topic of population, nothing we can change as it already happened. As human prosper, birth rate of the country will go down. As you can see rich family will have fewer kids than those poor family. I guess China knows what problem are they facing. That’s why China is trying their best to move their production line into higher tier in technology industry. Like what you said, when China lack of people to work. Salary will goes up and China is not suitable to be world factory any more. May be India will the next world factory with its population. May be 50 years later China population will become 700 million, but they do not produce low end production anymore like what is US today and that is not that bad after all.
@chong kl I don’t think China will go backwards in terms of technology, that’s a one way street it seems…what’s learned can not be unlearned…If it can avoid conflict, it will join the West in terms of tier one countries. Somehow I don’t think India will challenge China’s industrial base at least not in my lifetime. The 21st century is China’s century…nothing can stop that other than open conflict..2018 was a turning point in China’s population demographics, it’s unclear how this can be reversed in a rapidly aging population…
Those 700 million children can and will never be replaced…and that’s a lot of empty family homes…
@ikm64 You are right
No winners for war no losers for peace, quit it hilli billy cowboys.
The Great Deal-Maker did it again at the G20 meeting! Trump struck a deal with Xi to resume talks aimed at making a great deal with Xi; he dropped his threat to increase tariffs on all Chinese imports, stating there was no rush to reach any deal. Trump also made a deal with Kim to be welcomed on sacred N. Korean soil provided he declared it to be a great honor three times. HUGE PHOTO-OP!
China ….😊😊..the future world power ….economically and military. ….finally no wars anymore …👍
@Sean Hard Vietnam war by the US haha!!
Gary Holden — I live around South China Sea & have not problem with China but only US will come around once a while to stir up some problem in the name of freedom of navigation.
Gary Holden so which war are u talking about specifically?
Joshua Yang u really buy deep in west media bro. Wake up from fake news
Gary Holden how many ppl have china killed in south china sea? How many homes destroyed?
Question?
What are Epicanthic Folds? lol
Thx Trump for making China great again
China hopes Belt and Road forum that all mankind will live a prosperous life, and that life is good and there is no terrorism ,every Country is equal. The United States hopes to be NO.1 in the world for ever, other countries cannot surpass the United States
@Mike 72 there are lots of American companies join BRI projects in East Europe
If China appears to be the winner, than Trump has lost. To him it’s all about appearances.
China win the trade war…..pity US
There was a truce from further escalation at G20. Calling it a win for China sounds premature.
@David Lee It is unlikely that normalized trade will occur. Many companies are hedging their bets on supply chains now.
@Mike 72 Not a clear victory. Lots of major companies are now diversifying their supply chains. The tariffs still remain. A victory would be the reduction of tariffs with little reform; They are not there yet.
@Brian Ploszay It’s US rights to raise the tariffs to protect their local brand. China do not need to force remove the tariff. They just need to adopt the situation and adjust according the situation. It was like inflation, you won’t change the situation by whining, instead accept the fact and just move on. That is why China grow so fast, they don’t stand there and cry and blame others like some one else. End of the day, it’s the US consumers to pay for the tariffs.
@Brian Ploszay Victory is dependent on victory conditions. Apparently Beijing was only expecting trade talks to resume. They weren’t expecting Trump to suspend any plans on tariffs for the remaining 300bn USD of Chinese trade, and certainly not Trump’s complete 180 on Huawei’s status as a security threat.
Remember that this is an economic war, not a political war. Economic wars aren’t zero-sum – both the US and China can come out as winners.
Grandpa is too old to learn what tariffs do.
Bullshit China will never win
In the short term, both China and the US lose as a result of the trade war that the US started; but, in the long run, China will gain because the trade war strengthens China and speeds up its technological and innovative sectors while, at the same time, it weakens further the US economy.
Mainly China gain more business partner but US losing more business partner because of the loss of their credibility.
🇨🇳💪💪💪💪💪STRONGER CHINA !!!
Tariffs maintain at 25% . Period. No more nonsense from china.
D.T. should join the belt and road program
He will trying to BLOCK instead, if he join that mean U.S is surrounded.
They aren’t invited bruh.. East doesn’t need West that’s a fact! Asia is the biggest continental market period. Just stay in your geographical part of the world..
before the end of july, we will see what punishment would fall on America.
Every one is losing in trade war.
Liberal Pundits nowadays reveal one shocking truth, they are a very stupid bunch of people. Before Trump initiated the Trade wars with China, the USA did not get a cent on Tax,or Tariffs. Now Trump collected Billion $250 already, and the coming 300 billion, so did the USA lost? The longer Chinese and USA stalled in the talk, more revenues for the USA. Now, who is panicking, really?
I mean trump have 7 bankruptcy and China have learn how to deal with hard Time and over come opium war and lift itself out of poverty.china is patient and trump just tweet of any emotion he have or when he feel the mental break down
Trump is full of bluff, Q.E was printed and lent out very low interest, cooperates has borrowed and bought their own shares so that the prices went up to fool the investors, overall the U.S economy is deficits billions of $, how could it be still number one?? Can any one else answer this question, why 22T$ debt, Not prepare to pay the principal may be interest only.
Some one who specialize in BANKRUPTCY!
China is looking for long term results while America is aiming at short term. Thus, who would be the winner in this trade war is not hard to guess! Trump may be keeping an eye on the next G20 meeting so as to decide whether to sign a deal or not in this round of negotiation with China.
But Trump is a winner, he is winning so much he dont want to win anymore
When US stock drops. Something in Trump also drops. Trump talks a lot but we now know that it is all bull. You want to compete with China, you need a team, not one egoistic fool.
Yes it looks like China is winning the trade war. While U.S. market remains stagnant China is expanding their market elsewhere.
