I have been to the “showroom” in Siem Reap in Cambodia where people can come and see the rats work. Siem Reap is the place for the world famous Angkor ruin city. To bad very few people learn about this place there and most visitors also miss out to see the worlds biggest bats that happens to live in trees next to the tourist information but no one talks about them so few see them. Weird! Everything is so much concentrated on the ruins every thing else are forgotten. I have spent a month there as a guest.

Fun Fact about this little guy, I read in another report that he’s *also* trained to detect tuberculosis in patients. This rat saved more lives than I first considered!

I wonder how reliable the method is. do they use a second method afterwards to check the rat’s work, or do they declare an area mine-free merely because the rat didn’t find anything?
I would guess that they walk the whole place thoroughly with metal detectors afterwards, and that the point of the rat is to make that job safer by leaving far fewer mines that the humans might step on if the metal detector misses them.
