Nationwide, the price of a used car has skyrocketed 37% in the past year and a lack of inventory is to blame. Prices are so high, some people can’t find a car they can afford.» Subscribe to NBC News: http://nbcnews.to/SubscribeToNBC

Price of Used Cars Skyrockets
*The whole truth about the coronavirus. Watch the video you will be shocked* EVERYDAY.CF 2021 was an action-packed year I got a feeling 2022 is going to get even crazier /-7
What a scam!
I wouldn’t call it a scam. it is more like a selling tactic. less supply, more demand. that’s what happening in housing market right now.
@xian shi There are so many cars out there. People are buying cars they can’t afford. And yes, most car salespeople are scammers,,, how do you think they make their money. People like you pay the prices they are asking, so I can’t help you.
Cars really do not need computers. There is no reason why we can’t go back to the days of carburetors and computerless cars.
New cars certainly need computer-chips. Their delay in delivery is why used car prices are up. Most not selling their former new car yet.
I agree – many of us do NOT want the expensive bells and whistles, nor the car spying on us as we drive.
Give us cheaper, easy to maintain cars!
People have no money to spend on new cars. New cars are too expensive. They’re not making new cars. So people drive their old cars.
The country’s bankrupt.
New cars are in shortage due to microchip shortage. That’s why used cars got more expensive; because way fewer people upgrading to a new car.
Price gouging. Mother was buying a new car and the salesman said “we can’t sell the new ones for less than the used ones”. I missed the part where that’s my problem.
Sounds like it’s mothers problem.
The dealerships are paying a lot more for used cars too. They’re not making a bigger margin the way new dealers are with markups over MSRP
I ain’t selling a new car for less than a used one. You must be high lol that’s common sense bro. Especially with all this that’s going you have to think rational. Would YOU sell a new car less than a used one ?
@Motrell Morrid Yeah you would if it depended on the car being sold. That new car could be a Honda compared to a used Mercedes or something. That doesnt always apply because some new cars are cheaper than some used cars. Really just depends what car you’re getting.
This is NBC. Probably not an accurate report.
Only thing not accurate or not mentioned is the fact this inflation is actually affecting every major country the same.
Can’t produce as many new cars?? Every new car dealership is FULL of new cars they can’t sell!!
What are you talking about? Cars are staying on the lot for less than half the time they used to sit.
New Car Lots are extremely empty. Lol
People can’t upgrade to a new car (selling their old one) due to a lack of new cars produced thanks to the international microchip shortage.
Come up to Western NY, there’s plenty up here for all.
Americans suffer from self-inflicted car addiction.
Your country (and the planet) will only be stronger if you manage to free yourself from your pathetic addiction.
Dude, we can’t get around without a vehicle. It is too rural. And public-transport not good in cities.
America was built to be car dependent by design. You basically need one to survive in America.
Go get another booster shot and sit this one out
Dont buy the cars if they so expensive
some don’t have a choice. Maybe their car recently broke down.
Used car salesmen, very trustworthy perspective 😆
I bought my used truck in 96′, it was 10 years old. $1600.
85′ GMC Sierra Classic, 125K mi. One owner, I bought it from him in NOLA. Drove it across country pulling a 14′ trailer loaded down. Shipped it to the islands and after a year when I blew the engine hauling dirt, I took off the body and mounted a 32′ truck cab on the frame, and made a flatbed. I have been driving it since 02′ as a “mutant” Custom 4×4 for 20 years! I see those Eclipse EV trashed in the junk yards already. Get one older vehicle and rebuild it. Chevy 350, da bes. No computer chips. No dead weight.
Someone explain to me where did the used cars that were traded in go.
Across the oceans…for sale. Same as the cell phones.
People are not selling their formerly-new cars this year, because there is a new-car shortage due to a microchip shortage. So, because people are not selling their lightly used cars in order to buy a new one, that is why there are less used cars since that trickles down….
Bicycles are the new Lexus.
Inflation enjoy your stimulus checks
Don’t be ignorant, republican weirdo. Inflation is the same in every country right now. This has nothing to do with monetary policy and everything to do with the supply chain. In the case of cars, it has to do with people unable to upgrade to a new car due to microchip shortage.
@ScootMagoot46 lol ok
@ScootMagoot46 so the flood of new money in circulation has nothing to do with increased prices 🤔
Overpriced junk from cars that came from auctions.
Thanks President Joe
Look this started with Trump but I’m not blaming him or Joe. Blame China!!
Republican who is ignorant and stupid? Color me shocked. Lol
Microchip shortage has nothing to do with Biden and neither does the supply-chain. Inflation is exactly the same in every major country around the world right now.
Remember 5 years ago when we had real, bad hail all across the United States. The insurance company’s totaled out all those cars. No money for body shops and look no used cars. Where did all those used cars go?
Not only that but cars that have been in floods, hurricanes and tornados have taken a toll on insurance totaled cars.
Exported?
Hey America, Why don’t you start thinking of your people, instead of keeping up with imports, and greed .
Use public transportation
What public transportation?
If only we had some kind of system of elected officials to solve nationwide issues like this. If only…
Inflation is high in every country right now, goofy. Especially with cars because it’s related to microChips new vehicles need.
@ScootMagoot46 you the goofy for believing that
That’s why I use public transportation and walk where I need to go because cars are just too expensive.
This country is full of idiots that want to live 40 miles from work, with no public transit until they’re just out of the city they work in
@ScottoMalo “You’re”…she probably likes better grammar😉
@Veganpotter Thevegan not everyone wants to live in town.
https://youtu.be/dpoFCCQYllw
@Wut sure, and that desire to not live in town has enormous consequences to the planet. Making everyone and everything else suffer because of pettiness and selfishness.
And the rich get richer!
I got a 1999 Durango SLT 5.7L 177,000 miles Heat doesn’t work. New brakes. 4×4 . I bought it for 1,200. I want 5 grand now hmu
Why don’t you report what truck driver’s are forced to do out here trying to keep American moving. We can’t even buy a new semi truck, they are all being ordered and saved for large trucking companies and Independent contractors are forced to pay brand new prices for a used truck that is already wore out and has no warranty. They are pricing out the Independent operators and price guaging which I thought was illegal.
That’s what happens when we continue to elect the same dinosaurs in Congress. They get bought by big money and then they work for big money companies. Soon there will be nothing left for the regular guy. It’s not just happening in trucking but also housing. Big companies move in and buy our cheap affordable homes and raise the value to the point where most would find it difficult to afford. A run down pos 2 bed house in California was asking 1.2million!! Didnt even have landscaping.
They want the middle class priced out of ownership – our own home, car, business….
That gives us power, and they want us powerless and desperate, so we’ll work cheaply until we drop.
The new global feudal era
Used Nissan leaf $26,000 👀
Hopefully those grandparents in the story find a suitable vehicle.
Nothing beats a good bike or bus.
You know… maybe, just maybe if we invested in I dunno say mass transit, that was accessible for all. Not just in larger cities. We wouldn’t be so dependent on vehicles. Or here’s another thought, promote alternative modes of transportation, like biking. Build areas that aren’t so spread out etc.
Sure, in cities. Most live outside cities.
@ScootMagoot46 this is true. Hence the need for more comprehensive forms of transportation. Which is why I said, not just in larger cities. But our gov’t (ok, mostly certain portions of our gov’t) have done a great job into duping their constituents into believing, that investing into our country and the long term viability is a bad thing.
The idea is stupid, I’m not going to pay more taxes to finance people that can’t afford their own car.
You and you cyclists. Not everyone wants to smell nasty on their way to work from sweating and exhaust.
Ridiculous
LETS GO JAY POWELL!!!! KEEP PRINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you child. Learn anything. Inflation is the exact same in every major country right now. It’s all about supply-chain. Not monetary policy. Trump is who spent $7 trillion in debt in 4 years in office anyway.
It is the exact same in every country right now. Of course the media won’t explain how inflation is the same in every major country.
Because the Corporate Oligarchy that controls us controls the world
Maybe because it’s a American news broadcast? Like come on homie
Public transportation only exist in large cities, which people are leaving due to extraordinary rents/prices and high crime. The majority live in towns, which have no public trans. Plus, society is getting more violent; getting attacked on a bus is highly probable now.
I prefer bikes, but they are only a solution for specific cities; most towns, and some cities, will get you killed if you try to bike to work and back daily.
Best to survive with a high mileage older vehicle. Learn to fix as much as you can yourself, and try to find an honest non-corporate private mechanic. Motorcycles use to be the cheapest way to get on the highway, but the Harley craze turned them into severely overpriced toys for boomers. No easy answers for this one.
Well said!
Government regulations
Think used cars are high now? Keep voting democrat and the U.S. will be like Cuba, no new cars.
This is sooooo messed up!! Some of us can only afford used…
Inflation is hidden taxation. Gotta love capitalism.
Thats not capitalism. Bailouts and subsidies and corporate welfare is not capitalism.
Go down to Florida where cars are 20% cheaper than the us average. I bought a 2015 escape SE in 2016 with 40k Miles for 14,900 at a dealership in West Palm Beach. Same truck was 22k in Kentucky that same year where I’m from.
Still a rip off
Covid profiteering. The shortages are artificial and intended to make the rich even richer
They talk about used cars being expensive and they show 2-year-old Mrecedes Benz and BMw’s. C’mon man, get a grip with your stories, show us 10-year-old Chevy’s and Ford’s.
Welp, I guess it’s back to horse’s and buggies we go because the markets are clearly out of … control.
30 percent not that much so if a car is 5000 so now a used car 6500…I mean 1500 that bad awwww nbc news
Something else happened last year, we got a new president. Is there a correlation?
I’m waiting for a cheap self driving car with a crash cage in it
Thanks Biden!
Come to Texas, there are plenty here.
Do a go fund me for that grandpa so he can have a ride for thoses babies!!!!
I was in the supermarket the other day, and there were plenty of chips up and down the isle. So, there is no shortage at all. Anyways, who wants to eat micro-chips, they are so small, you can’t even taste them.
Wouldn’t be a problem had the US just invested in an efficient public transportation system
Nah politicians love getting kickbacks from the companies
Used cars should be cheaper.
If you dont have mass transit, your going to be walking.
Nobody wants those high mileage cars…pls!
THE MERCENARY a celebration of Blood spraying violence and toxic masculinity in Martial Arts action by former French Foreign Legion 2 REP Sniper now on amazon prime ……….
USA becomes a 3rd world country. In 1987 Brazil had this problem during their time of inflation. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
So. Hows that joe Biden. Thing going
Get a Klonker auto insurance is nothing but a pass to drive. New cars get dinged in parking lots and stolen it ain’t worth it.
I wonder how may. People got the heads up on this..
B S.
Absolutely the worst president ever in history. Please do the right thing and impeach this person!
Ah ha, no mention in this program of what Administration is in charge now.
The powers that be are reapplying the “Greed is Good” at a whole new level.
Shop local, Craigslist. Just buy what you can afford. F dealerships
There’s ZERO mention that dealerships had record profits this past year…
What do you expect when the government pumps $7.2 trillion into American pockets. Reap what you sew.
I bought a car last year when my 2 decade old car bit the dust and the only reason I was able to get it for “cheap” was that it was a manual. The automatic version of the same car in a less popular color, with more than 40k additional miles, but automatic was going for 5k more. I feel sick paying 7200 for an 11 year old vehicle but I actually got a steal in this crazy market.
Price gouging pure and simple. They know people will be getting their income tax return and stick it to people. Don’t buy in January-may ! Then you will get a decent car for a decent price. And remember have the good sense to walk away if they won’t negotiate.
Cars, Gas, Groceries, Building Materials, Houses … all gone crazy. Do you miss Trump yet?
“Welcome To America” where price gouging is the American way, get used to it folks. Remember the “stimulus checks”, well guess what, they want their money back.
S/O to my 2006 tsx paid 3k for it have got offers up to 6-7k. 👏🏾👏🏾 #hondanation
Even the junkyards get hit. The price for used parts have gone up, and salvageable vehicles for sale are tough to come by. I’ve seen some guys buy cars from the junkyard, put a motor or transmission in it, and drive it for years. Those days are over.
We bought a used 2007 Charger last year. Engine still good. The undercarriage and tires a bit messed up but we got fixed. Still cheaper to get all that fixed than the COVID fee these dealers are tacking on now.
i just bought a 2018 highlander. all the highlanders on the lot were 35k+. i got mine for 28k only because it had a few small dings that csn be cheaply fixed. i saved 7 grand from using my head. look for deals.
I lost my 2015 mazda 3 last year on feb 7, still aint get another car because I was waiting for the prices to drop and they’ve only gotten higher wtf
#let it rust.
That’s BS!! Go mess with the rich people and leave the poor people alone 😔 🙁
